I would say Costco, although you DO need a membership I think? Someone told me that if you tell the people at the front that you just want prescriptions, you do not need a Costco membership. I think they accept AMEX, debit and cash, and their dispensing fee is the lowest.

Myself, I go to Safeway for convenience, and they give you 7 x the airmiles, so I am happy. Not happy with the service though - snippy and rude staff - and always a long wait, but then I use the time to shop for groceries and stuff. Perhaps long waiting times are a ploy to get people to shop? Sometimes, I just drop off the prescription and pick it up the next day or so.

I got this info from another website, and I dont know how current it is:

    Dispensing Fees

    Shoppers Drug Mart 11.99
    Guardian Drugs 11.99
    Pharma Plus 11.99
    Rexall 9.99
    Hy & Zels 7.49
    Independent Pharmacy 7.49
    Loblaws Pharmacy 7.49
    Ultra Food & Drug 7.49
    Zehrs Markets Pharmacy 7.49
    Zellers Pharmacy 7.49
    Wal-Mart 7.47
    Fortinos Pharmacy 6.54
    Costco 4.11

This varies by province. In Sask, it's not allowed to be over $9.
Here's a listing for each province - from 2007, though

Costco has the lowest fee and you do not have to be a member to fill your prescriptions there. You just tell them at the front you are filling a prescription and you go to the pharmacy. Their prices are so much lower then everywhere else.

Yeup! Costco has the lowest dispensing fee and you do not need a membership to get your prescription filled. All you need to do it show your prescription to the staff by the entrance.

I think it varies by not only province but store, although I could be wrong. My Walmart is $8.99, Shoppers is $11.99 which I find funny when I use to get a prescription filled there and WITH filling fee the cost was like $14 and change, they make a killing off the fees. Costco I heard is around $6 here, but it's on the other side of town and wasted gas to get there isn't saving me much if anything to just get it done at Walmart.

Your health plan should pay for some of the dispensing fee, my bf just got pills for his ear infection and he went to SDM and was charged $3.99 dispensing fee.

not all health plans cover the dispensing fee..

my hubby has 100% coverage that's paid for by his work, only stipulation is that he has to cover the dispensing fee.

But mine is 90% coverage including the dispensing fee.

When we lived in Ottawa, we went to this little kinda mom and pop pharmacy. Basically, it was an independant pharmacy. His was lower than Loblaws, and he used to lower it if you didn't have insurance. I liked the personalized atmosphere. This pharmacy knew everyone by name, and since my husbands meds were special order, he just started stocking it just for him. I hated the service at Zellers and Loblaws and we NEVER went back after finding this place. So, I would check the little places out too. Sometimes a few bucks is worth it if you really like the place and service.
