Anyone have any recommendations for good hotels in montreal, downtown area? I have booked a trip Aug 17-20 and still have to find a hotel. I am looking around $100 a night.

And any tips on what attractions to do... I went there in grade 8 which was.... like 15 years ago haha

I always use hotwire.com when i book hotels.
You pretty much get a 4 star hotel for the price of a 2 star.
During my roadtrip to the US i used hotwire.com and saved alot of money.

Problem with hotwire is that it doesn't show you any pics of the actual hotel or which one you are getting right?

July 13th -17th I stayed at the Delta Montreal and really enjoyed it. It's not the one directly downtown but a small ways away. It was a decent price, a bit more than what you may hope. It was a great family and small pet-friendly hotel. It is 10 min walking distance to the huge 5 floor Eaton mall, lots of restaurants, and attractions. We walked to the Notre Dame, and a huge harbor with plenty to do. They had a jazz festival going on when my family went but as far as I know there's almost some kind of festival going on there. We took the subway and short bus ride to the gorgeous Mount Royal which has a huge beautiful park over-looking the entire city. Good luck and hope you find something!

Although some of Montreal's attractions make a winter visit enticing (especially for skiers and snowboarders), summer is the best season to travel to the city. Spring is probably least interesting, because the snow is just melting and some outdoor attractions don't open until late June.

I would suggest using Priceline.com...name your own price, you should be able to get a 4 or 5 star hotel for 100 dollars easily. The only catch is their cancellation policy- if you can't make it you loose all of your money. That's how they make their money, but it's a great deal if you are absolutely sure that nothing will come up. Hotwire is also a great deal-sometimes, you should keep checking everyday for different deals. Keep in mind that both of those sites are in us funds. As far as attractions go, I would definitely check out the biodome, especially if travelling with kids, there is also a tower right next to it that you go check out. There is a lovely chocolate shop on a street called Saint Dennis...yummo. My favorite restaurant was called Reuben's and is located on Saint Catherine's street...a little pricey, but very worth it. Their transit systems are amazing, you can get anywhere on the subway for 2 bucks. You will have so much fun, you will swear you are in Europe.

I ended up using hotwire and used betterbidding.com to narrow down what hotel I was getting. I would suggest everyone do this if you use hotwire/priceline in the future. I ended up staying at Hyatt Regency on St.Catherine, great location, good restaurants. I was expecting the hotel to be a bit nicer with the name Hyatt, but it was alright.

Montreal was fun, we did some attractions, walked around downtown quite a bit, weather was great. The via rail ride back was horrible, we got stuck in the storm that was that horrible tornado that struck southern ontario was we were delayed 1.5 hours coming to Toronto and then 2.5 hours in Toronto, until we got bused back home.

I went to Montreal once and didn't rent a car..BIG mistake..the bus system sucks if you don't know exactly where to get off and you'll be on it for hours but the subway is great. Definately check out the Biodome and the Casino.

    Hello
we are going at the beginning of the august and we booked a B&B, well sort of a B&B, it is actually an apartment with 2 bedrooms bathroom kitchenette free parking and walking distance to the metro. We also booked a studio apartment with one bedroom, bathroom and kitchen for my mother. THe first apt for only $125+tax and the studio for $95+tax. The place is called Studio Montreal and we found it on www.bbcanada.com just type montreal and a whole list of accommodation will come up.
    Good luck

I love Montreal. One of my favourite small hotels is Manoir des Alps, which is in a more francophone part of town, near UQUAM and Berri. All three subway lines run out of this stop, and there is a liquor store on the corner. The hotel is modest (they do have a couple of rooms with jacuzzi tubs), but offers free wifi, free parking, and a very nice breakfast included in their dining room.

Some of the best maps are at http://http://www.stm.info/english/a-somm.htm, including showing buildings.

Notre Dame Catherdral is on my todo list every time, and St. Joseph's Oratory on Mont Royale provides one of the best views of the city.

It's a challenge to find bad food in Montreal, the French love their food! Check out some BYOB places to save some bucks. Rue Prince Arthur is well known for them.

Olympic Park and the Jardin des Plantes and insectitarium is a cool visit.

La Ronde on the island is a must do if you have kids.
