Here`s another attempt from me.


The clock in the church tower tolled twelve times. Midnight. The witching hour.

The street was dark, the street lights dimmed by the fog that rolled through the city. A dog barked as a middle aged man carrying his jacket, sleeves rolled up, hurried past.

The meeting had gone late, how could he have known how late it would go. Surely she will understand. Once she sees it. That will make things better.

He stopped at a red light. He pulled the pearl necklace out of his pocket. It was perfect. She`d always wanted a set of pearls. He rubbed the intricate clasp. Could something so fragile, so delicate, really solve all his problems. It had to.

No cars, no traffic, why was he standing here, wasting time. He darted out into the street. He heard the screeching tires before he saw the headlights.

His jacket brushed against the sedan as the car raced past.

"No!" he screamed, as the pearls slipped through his fingers & fell through the slits in the sewer grate.
