There are MANY different ways to help out your local animal shelter, and knitting is a great easy way to do so. There are MANY different free pattern sites you can go to.

Shelters always need: Blankets, toys, rags, towels, animal clothing (mostly small dogs, even really really little things for premature animals), and even things to sell.

Here are some websites to get you started!

    Great tips

On another note, parents with used baby blankets, quilts, and matresses may be able to donate to local animal shelters once their children get older. Slightly ripped or torn blankets may not be accepted at goodwill/salvation army, but the animal shelter will likely be willing to take them as long as they are clean and in fairly good condition. The same thing goes for towels. If your bathroom towels are outdated or ruined, give them to the animal shelter instead of throwing them away.

With fall coming up they'll need blankies and towels more than ever- not just the cold but the wet weather as well. Don't forget your kids might want to get involved too and it's a great way to teach them about compassion for animals!

Great tips! Children usually want to help when it comes to animals. Also its garage sale time. Donating part of the proceeds is an awesome idea!

Ouch. You just reminded me that I have a bag of old, clean towels that I took out of our linen closet in the car ready to go to the shelter. I'll have to get my hubby to bring them...I can't even go into a place like that: I'd be driving home with a whole whack of doggies!
    Thanks for your post, Improperganda!

Most shelters around here will not take anything knitted around here except catnip balls, they don't hold up when washed 1-2 times a day as much as old towels do and kittens get their claws stuck in them.

But I am sure they would take them to sell
