Thread: Gym equipment donations??
-
Wed, Oct 6th, 2010, 01:05 PM #1
Hi,
I've recently joined the parent council at our elementary school and naturally we need to raise some money. This school is in a lower income area and we don't want to burden parents by selling things. This school does not have as much equipment as some other schools and a lot of the equipment it does have needs replacing.
Our first goal is to get some gym equipment. Does anyone have any ideas who may be able to donate some items? It doesn't have to be a lot. Also trying to find some monetary donations to buy the items we can't get donated. (Of course this is eligible for a tax receipt).
We're looking to raise $1000 to improve our gym.
Any help would be appreciated!!!!
Thanks!
Sue

You can always try to approach merchants who sell what you need in your area. They may have things they could donate especially if you can give them a tax receipt.
Try gyms also. They upgrade their equipment regularly so they may have some they could give you.

Yes, like DH said...try the highschools that your elementary school "feeds" students to...I'm sure they'd do what they can...Also...although it's late in the year...how about a yard sale of donated items from parents..asking for donations from local retailers (esp if you give receipts!) for the sale...Good luck, Hon!!

You need to think outside the box. Is there a way to get this equipment without having to purchase it? I would approach some of the larger health clubs in the city. They are always upgrading equipment to the newest model and for whatever is the fad of the moment. What happens to the perfectly good equipment that gets moved out to make room for the new? If they donate it to your school they'll get a lot of good P.R. mileage from a piece of equipment that they in all likelihood were going to toss into a scrap metal bin.

people love that Elmira chicken, and you get 5$ per box that you sell
Also people LOVEEEEEE the cookie dough campaigns.
I dont think your going to find anyone to donate the items but you can definitely fund raise for it!

Chocolate always makes the most money but for a quick fundraiser you can have a spaghetti supper or a movie night, car wash, collect cans/bottles door to door, penny drive, walk-a-thon. Some take a bit of organizing but they are fun too.

Thanks for the great ideas!
Sadly I do not go to a gym… I'm on the toddler diet. Chase them all day and have no time to eat!
Can you give me an idea of what a gym would have that could be used in an elementary school gym? Can't think of things…
Thanks!

Gyms might have mats, medicine balls, ropes, hurdles, light weights.

Maybe consider contacting service clubs in your area like Rotary, Kinsmen, Elks, etc.

Some ideas for you and your group....
http://www.fundraiserhelp.com/elemen...undraisers.htm
..just curious...what kind of "equipment" does your gym need in an
elementary school? I'm just guessing here, but I can't recall anything
that costs a lot being used by little kids in their gyms...It might give us
a better idea of where you could look.....I have the best job in the world!!

Canadian Tire has a charitable program that helps students in need, you might try contacting them to see if your school will qualify:

Maybe you could have a costume day? Kids pay $0.50 to wear their Halloween costumes to class. What about a Fall/Xmas fair? Bake sale?
Good luck!

Thanks again everyone.
I'm waiting for a list from school, but I'm thinking: basketballs, volleyballs, hoops, mats, bean bags, floor hockey equipment…. (just from memory…)

This equipment slightly more than normal, expensive equipment, is usually a better quality and design. Behind the use of professional-grade equipment under the premise of the exercise will be more effective. Although the validity of the jury is still claiming there is no substitute for quality projects.
