In honor of St. Urho we are having a contest! It's fun and it's easy. There will be 2 winners, picked randomly. There's 2 parts. But first, here's the lowdown on St. Urho:

Us Finnish North Americans or honourary Finlanders (the case of Mrsb07) celebrate St. Urho's Day, one day before St. Patty's Day, on March 16th. We wear purple and remember our patron saint, St. Urho, who drove the grasshoppers out of the vineyards long, long time ago...

For you cynics out there, I wouldn’t believe the legends that the Finns just get jealous of the Irish having something to celebrate and get drunk so they made up their own legend After all, where do you think the term Mickey Finn came from?

In any case, to enter our finn-tabulous contest, we would like you to do two tasks:<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
First we have some Finnish words. Can you match them to their English translation?

Here are some Finnish words:

heinäsirkka, sinipunainen, kala mojakka, hullu, kylpyamme, poika, tytto, sohva, peruna,
sinappi, viinirypäleet, kutitus

And here are the English equivalents (in no particular order):

sofa, purple, boy, girl, crazy, fish stew, grape, mustard, grasshopper, potatoes, bath, tickle<o:p></o:p>

Now for the second part. You must come up with your own chant to scare off grasshoppers using at least 3 of the above words. Be creative! We really don't want any problems with grasshoppers!

Two winners will be drawn on St. Urho's Day, March 16th. And what will the lucky winners receive? They will each receive a surprise package containing at least one item from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Finland</st1:place></st1:country-region> and of course, some coupons! One winner will receive theirs from Mrsb07 and one will receive theirs from yours truly, eriluo.
