    Dear dear dear SC'ers,

A few weeks ago I sent a letter to the president of Wm asking for them to change their policy because it made no sense. See post: http://forum.smartcanucks.ca/192076-walmart-letter-president-director-corporate-affairs-brace-your-selves-canada/

Well folks I just received and e-mail from Maria Della Grota about their NEW policy.. HOLD ON TO YOUR SEATS. HERE IT IS:

    Dear Ms XXX,
    Thank you for your patience.

The following represents guidelines shared with our stores to facilitate coupon handling.

    • coupon is accepted only if store carries the item
    • must be presented at the time of purchase
    • only Canadian coupons are accepted
    • the item purchased must match the item presented on the coupon. (identical in size, quantity, brand, style, flavour, color and / or any other specs used to identify the product on the coupon)
    • Expiration date must be present & be redeemed prior to the expiration
Types of coupons accepted by Walmart Canada:
    • Print-at-home internet coupons:
      • must be legible
      • must have "Manufacturer Coupon" printed on them
      • have have a valid name & Canadian remit address
      • must have a valid expiration date
      • must have a scannable bar code
      • can be buy one, get one free (BOGO) coupons
      • are acceptable in black, white or color
    • Manufacturer's coupons
      • dollar/cents off
      • free items
      • buy one get one free (BOGO)
      • has "Manufacturer Coupon" printed
      • must have valid name
      • must have valid expiration date
      • must have a scannable bar code

    • Competitors coupons qualify if:
      • issued by a Canadian competitor
      • for a specific item for a specified price i.e. $2.99
      • buy one, get one free (BOGO) coupons for items with a specified price
      • they have a valid expiration date
      • and are acceptable in black, white or color

    # of coupons that can be used for each item
    • only one acceptable coupon may be presented for each purchased item within a transaction
    • store managers reserve the right to limit quantities where multiple coupons are being used for multiple purchases of the same item
When coupon value exceeds the price of the item:
    • the excess amount can be given as cash or can be applied toward the basket purchase , at the customer's choice
Free merchandise with a coupon (BOGO)
    • no sales tax is applied on the free merchandise
Hoping the information provided adds some clarity. I remain,
    Respectfully,
    Maria Della Grotta

Wow this is good to know. The only part that worries me is the must have a scannable bar code part. I have never had a coupon that has scanned properly at the checkout - do you think that it is referring to that instance, or does the coupon just have to have a bar code period?

I think she just means that the coupon needs to have a bar code. We don't scan your coupons so I think it's just because at the main center they use the bar codes to redeem the coupons. It has no use for us shoppers.

So no to Dove, and most websaver coupons, as they just have the coupon codes on them, no barcode...

I have lots of websaver with barcodes on them. Most new websaver coupons have now barcodes (I think) And I'm pretty sure with an original coupon like the Dove one they wont fuss over it.

If the stores do then it would look like e-mail should be sent.

I just get reply from them recently, what I got is, they are working on the policy, i.e. no policy being provided at all and when I show the online US ones to the stores, they directly say that is US ones, you shouldn't use that, and I got manager call me back said head office ask me to tell you this is US ones, not applicable in Canada, and they have no policy in Canada.

For printable, once I got manager and cashier won't let me use it, because it can't be scanned, even though got bar code there. I never see any printable could be scanned unless is issued by the company for instore ones, and manager won't listen anyways

Finally a policy that makes sense in Canada.... Although it would be nice to know if they PM and we are able to use coupons as I had a cashier deny me last week but then changed her mind when I mentioned I never have a problem... Thanks for posting this... will make shopping much more relaxing for coupon users.

Has anyone tried using competitors coupons at WM? That's new to me.

And excess amount can be refunded in cash. I can't wait for them to pay me to shop at their store!

Quebecqueen, thank you so much for sharing w us.

Thanks for the heads up! Does this mean that they will now allow coupon stacking? Cause at the walmart I'm close to will stare at my coupons for 1min each and they only allow one coupon per item. I rarely use coupons there anymore cause I always hold up the line and get dirty looks from the cashier... a few times I had to argue with the cashier about the coupon and got rejected cause the coupon was over the price of the item. Thanks, I gonna print this out and see if it would help. I'll keep everyone posted after my shopping trip tomorrow.
