I wouldnt worry about it too much. Its harmful yes, but what isnt these days. Just being alive is.

I stopped using j and j when they got rid of the red shampoo. I loved the smell of it.

Don't be too hard on yourself danielzmom there's nothing you can do about it now except move forward researching alternative products. I'm not sure what soaps would be good for a baby or child but I'm sure someone at your local Health Food Store can help you. 100% Emu Oil is a great diaper rash/cradle cap/eczema cream with many other uses as well if you are looking for something like that (Kalaya Emu Oil is the one I buy again and again)

what is killing me is that they are waiting two years probably to clear all the shelves and the warehouse, then release the new formula!!

I agree and love your post so much!

While it's good to be informed of what is put into items that we use for our children, we have to consider what else out there causes illnesses.. everyday, we go outside, breath in fumes and toxins or we eat items with pesticides and chemicals to maintain shelf life.. those that are much more dangerous than occasional exposure to a baby shampoo (compared to several meals, outdoor exposures per day).

I just live life.. my parents used J&J with me and so did their parents. We are very healthy with an optimistic view on life. Thanks to OP for posting but that's my 2 cents.

Well, unfortunately, we still have to be careful with what 'natural' is - like natural baby wipes, etc.

    http://www.cbc.ca/marketplace/2011/lousylabels/

However, true it is, that all that is truly natural is not necessarily good. Uranium is natural, after all! Water is a chemical. So sometimes it's just word play.

I think all we can do is read labels, do our own research, and cross our fingers that we are making the best choice for products - for what we know, at that time.

you are right! what is funny, my son had eczema the first year..no other products suited him..so i had to resort to j&j products..now i'm confused! the dangerous ingredients(traces) found in j&j shampoo aren't listed on the label!

my parents used J&J with me too! but what makes me happy about this article..is that we get to know what is wrong with stuff in Canada and the US unlike users of J&J (or other recalled products) in the third world!
    thank you for your input!

Sorry that large multinational companies do not spend their research money on creating healthy products for babies.

The profit is their motive, not the health effects on the baby.

    Sad.

J&J regular baby shampoo also releases another harmful chemical if your using water that has chlorine. can't remember what it is called but when it mixes with chlorine it creates formaldehyde which is one of the most commonly known dangers. mostly because orphanages used to mix it in milk to preserve it longer. sadly, it killed hundreds of children.
