I just started to make my own. They take all of 2 min to do a batch. Little mild soap and some water in a wipes tub and then I just use the little thin washcloths. I still use disposable ones for poop and when we are out of the house, but otherwise they are working great. I only make what I will use in a few days though, as I am not using any preservatives, I don't like wet things sitting around too long. The disposable wipes have things in them that keep them fresh, mine don't.

Wipes can be a problem for some babies and diaper rash, but we always used disposable with our daughter and she has had a rash maybe 4 times, and could always be traced to something she ate. It really depends on the baby.

i agree. different babies react to them differently. with my daughter i could use anything and she was fine, my son can only use pampers products. everything else gives him a rash. though i did stock up on last weeks huggies wipes sale for messy finger when we are out. i have never tried homemade ones. i like the convenience of easy disposal.

I did not have a lot of money with my first son. I used cloth diapers and I cut j clothes in half and made a solution with jj head to toe body wash and water and washed them with the diapers ever other day. After a few months I just cut more and kept going I used wipes And Huggins when we went out....who wants to lug around nasties!!

It's not cost effective for us to use wash cloths, since we're in an apartment and laundry is ridiculously expensive, so we're still using disposable wipes. I was originally using the Pampers wipes but I happened to get quite a few boxes for $1 after coupon of the Huggies wipes and I like them so much better. They are softer, thicker and don't come out three at a time like the Pampers tend to do.

I always worried that if I made my own wipes, there would be a chance that bacteria could grow.

Great thread! I hve three kids and have gone thru sooo many boxes of wipes. Too bad I didn't read this thread years ago. Although baby wipes do clean any mess including crayon on the walls.

I have tried/modified many recipes, use what you have on hand, it doesn't have to be exact! The hardest part is making sure it doesn't go funky. Most people put the solution in a squirt bottle to prevent this.
    Tips:
    Make smaller batches
    Clean the container or bottle
    Use clean water!
Add something like teatree oil (antimicrobial) especially if you store the wipes wet
U can just use baby wash & baby or olive oil it doesn't need to be too fancy

    Good recipe:
    1c water (distilled or boiled)
1tbs Dr Bronners soap or baby wash
1tbs oil (baby oil, olive, almond, vit E)
1 or 2 drops teatree or calendula oil
Optional, a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Lavender, Chamomile just make sure they're pure essential oils and baby safe.

    Cheap Wipe ideas:
Cut up an old flannel sheet
    Use baby wash cloths
    Roll of paper towels

At home I tend to use a little bowl with just a squirt of head to toe baby wash & baby oil. Change it once or twice a day never double dip lol use 2 cloths instead of rinsing
For going out I store the wipes dry & use a squirt bottle with solution & put them in a wetbag. I also cloth diaper. Hope this helps & saves u big $$$! Wipes are expensive it kills me to buy them for daycare lol

Man that looks complicated! Trust me it's not just try it! Don't worry about being exact. It's a money saver that's worth it!
