The Elph 300HS has been superseded by the 310HS, which has an 8X optical zoom (instead of 5X) so the 300 is basically at the end of its product cycle and deals on it should be abundant. I paid $159 for one at Best Buy during Boxing Week.

For my money, this is hands-down the most amazing camera in its category, and one of the few that can be counted on to take consistently decent shots in low light (the Nikon and Panasonic products in the point-and-shoot pocket cam category all come up way short in this regard according to all the reviews I've seen.)

I am absolutely tickled-silly with my Elph 300 and would encourage anyone in the market for a tiny yet powerful carry-anywhere cam to grab one of these before they're gone.

I played around a bit with the replacement 310 at BB and am thoroughly convinced it's nothing but landfill fodder, as Canon seem to have tripped over their own feet in racing to make something even smaller and more powerful than the 300. The lens assembly is incredibly flimsy (in fact the fully-extended barrel on one of their two display units had seized up and would no longer retract, even though the camera was still powered.) Plus the controls are soooo tiny you will find this device extremely hard to set if your fingers are any bigger around than pencils.
