Hey everyone!
I recently started looking into getting some pet insurance for my yorkie. Does anyone on here have pet insurance, which insurance do you have?
Looking forward to seeing your comments. Thanks!!This thread is currently associated with: N/AEarn GC's talking about Fashion and Beauty!

:O We should have a Yorkie play date!!! My lil guy is 9 months

We thought about it...but at 55 dollars a month we were unsure. So we just put about 40 away every month and if anything happens we have it, if not we have it still haha
Our guy is mostly indoors...only goes out with us and on a leash.

I remember that age lol. Suger used to find anything on the floor (hair ties, my bro's toys) and put it in his mouth. I used to have to chase him around to get him to drop it, and not without a fight lol. Glad hes older now lol.
I want to get it because i know yorkies have problems with their joints, which he is already getting, and the surgery is like thousands of dollars. Im only a bartender, mostly part time, and I wouldnt be able to afford something like that.
Also (THIS IS VERY EMBARRASSING AND NOT MENT FOR CHILDREN TO READ) I had an accident where my yorkie ate a condom LMAO. funny now, but not at the time. We rushed him to the VEC clinic at 3am stayed till 5am, and ended up paying $500 plus cab fare. So i've learned that accidents happen and I should prepare for them lol.Earn GC's talking about Fashion and Beauty!

problem is, with most of these "insurance" policies, the don't cover many things, like hip displacia in german shepards for example so you will be out of pocket anyways. As said before, you are best to put away $40 a month or whatever the premiums are, than be out of money twice over. Those plans are one of the biggest scams out there IMO.
If your dog is already starting to show signs of problems, you can bet your patootie they will deny your claim.Last edited by BCSparkyGirl; Tue, Jan 17th, 2012 at 10:52 AM.

Yea, just put money aside, you can try giving him glucosamine and chrondroitin supplements to help his joints as a preventative measure (my friend does this for her yorkie) and next time he eats something google ways to make dogs throw up, I did that once, saved me the money taking the puppup to the vet and she threw up the earplug she ate (this was right away that I did it) - I called the vet and this is what they suggested...

I use trupanion insurance. It's unlimited coverage, for any new accidents or illnesses, and pays 90% of the total. I pay 52, but we signed him up as a new puppy with no problems. If your dog already ate something in the past, they might exclude covering that in the future because it's something that already happened.
What I found in my research that some other companies can increase your premiums or reduce the % of total cost that they will cover once you start making claims! So if your dog gets eye issues that need medication or even surgery, over time they can charge you more monthly and/or start by covering 80% and then 60%, then even 40%after you start claiming your costs. Isn't that ridiculous??? Tru panion doesn't do that! If you have any specific questions about Trupanion, ask!

Make sure you read the fine print. Insurance companies do their best to deny claims. My friend has pet insurance for her cat - the plan is supposed to cover their prescription foods, but will barely give her 10% back on those costs.
I put money aside each month to pay for emergency costs. I find I'm further ahead that way.
Oh & I know VEC very well (the downtown location). When Lily dog was 2, we went for a walk in a not so savoury neighbourhood (where individuals were apparently known to do crack, little did I knonw) & a certain nosy parker had to sniff some wet grass. Silly me thought it was dew. It wasn't. After $1500 & 24hrs of detox with a private nurse, Lily dog was good as new (& we both have a story to tell about life in the big city).

For my boxer my ex and I decided on pet insurance through BCAA. It is the luxury plan which I think costs around $45.00 a month. Not too sure as he is the one who pays it. It covers up to $4,500 per year.
This was a huge money saver for us this past year as our boxer had a cancer scare while he went into the vet for something else. He then had to have to surgery to remove the cancer. During this time they also found out he had cushings disease. A month and a half later when they did the surgery for the cushings disease he has complications with two surgeries and we almost lost him. If we didn't have the pet insurance we would have had to pay well over $5000 for his surgeries and 24 hour emergency care. In stead it was around $1000.

A few months ago I tried to get Pet Secure, gave them my bank info & everything online. Got my policies in the mail a few weeks later with our policy numbers & info, etc...
While I'm waiting for them top take the payment from our account I read over the policy & it looks nowhere near as good as it did online, only covers up to a certain ammount & doesn't include alot of things & not very much on dental so I was already unhappy with it when they started calling me asking for my bank account number. It's been about 3 months & they keep calling threatening to cancel our policy for non payment. Call me crazy but if we never made a payment then we don't actually have a policy do we
I just hang up, they're a scam. They won't ask for me anymore either they ask for my husband who tells then to hold while he gets me so I can hang up lol
