I have found that shopping outside the grocerystore save s me the most money, averys in sackville much better prices 10lbs of appels for under 6 dollars, 10lbs of potatoes is allways under 3 we buy the majority of our meat from withrows in mount uniake ( when they are open april to december) 10lbs of lean hamberger for 25 bucks wihich is comparable but there meat is as close to organic you can get without being organic ( my natropath buys his meat there ) so my question is , is there anywhere eles i can buy local and save $ ????

Dave's Fruit Stand in Dartmouth has good prices on fresh food, and deli meats too.

I love the Vegetorium on Waverly Rd. near Fall River. Their produce is fantastic!! And there's a farmers market in Dartmouth Crossing on Fridays, in addition to the big ol' Halifax farmers market.

I second Dave's Fruit and Vegatables on Main Street. There is a Ben's Bread outlet next door to it with great prices. I also second the dartmouth and halifax farmers markets. I love the halifax one. I get all of my produce there or at Dave's each week.

I like Dave's as well, not a big fan of the Vegitorium, have found their prices high and when I was going there last year the produce wasn't the freshest.

Nature's Cove (used to be The Cove) on the Bedford highway near Kearney Lake Road has really reasonable prices I have heard. I can't easily get there because of no car.

Pete's Frootique, Bedford or Dresden Roa, is competitively priced for fruits and veggies and often things are priced better than Superstore where I do my main shopping.

I wonder if we can't have a regular group to exchange info on where is less-expensive local and healthy stuff?

I just made a Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/287277561335969/ called Halifax Local/Healthy/Frugal

Noggin Farms is very reasonable and very fresh. They're right at the end of the market and have a very large stall. Some of the smaller vendors with organic produce are pricey but Noggin is great. They had medium sized squash for $1.50 each two weeks ago.

Love the products at Halifax Market, but I dislike having to drive so far. And it's always so busy, not great with two little kids getting pushed around or run over by other strollers, not fun for them at all.

I like Farmer Clem's for produce when they're open. I also stop by roadside stands for produce for even better deals.

If you can get there before 10am the hipster's haven't arrived yet with their designer sneakers and baby carriers. My bff and I make a point to go early to avoid them. :D
