While at Zellers today, I noticed they had some rice krispie squares, pop tarts and milk bone dog treats and several other food items that were on for a dollar. Most of them had expired about a week ago and some were expering in the next few days. I have never bought expired food, but I saw lots of people buying them. So just wondering is it safe ?

Personally think it really depends on the item.... dry goods, might take a chance with if they expire this month and we were going to eat them quickly.

Hell, we're using cereal that is a year out of date. And don't start me on the granola bars. Somebody forgot to rotate the stockpile.
Dry goods seem to last for at least a year. I've used canned milk that's 7 months out of date and it's fine.

I don't believe that there is a magic date that food goes bad. I buy 4L of milk that expire in 1 or 2 days and no one has ever gotten sick when we finished it 3 or 3 days after the expiry date. I think it is more of a date that it must be out of the store. If it is a hard product sealed in plastic how are you going to know? If it has been opened then no chance of bacteria or whatever. If it is sealed my husband will eat it as long as it isn't supporting life!

Milk I would use in a cooked form just to be safe. As for expiry dates, I have a question. Regarding the small Little Ceasrs meat trays, could they be frozen for later use with no ill effects?
