I always donate directly at the Salvation Army Store. If you don't donate at the Salvation Army Store, Goodwill Store or Similar Store you should watch this. I have never been a big fan of Value Village for this very reason. How much are the charities actually getting?
Beware of Donation Bins!
So the link has changed but the point was how much the private stores make from people donating to bins. People picking up clothes can make up to $4000 a week by how much they bring in. A couple of bins they showed were fake bins. One guy has held at gunpoint when making his donations. Other bins such as the Salvation Army are ransacked for the good stuff and left to pay for the garbage removal which was in the 10's of thousands of dollars. Please donate in the store and note at Value Village because that is 100% profit for them! This thread is currently associated with: Value VillageLast edited by alwaysdaddysgirl; Wed, Feb 1st, 2012 at 03:23 PM.

Wow, very interesting and sad. I know things get stolen from the Salvation Army bins, but always assumed it was those in need.

It is disgusting isn't it. I have always gone into the store because I was leary of how much the charity was actually getting.
Don't worry Rika we know that you are not selling our donations. No need to show the letter.

Wasn't able to watch the last part of of video, but I think I got it figured.. I was just going to drop all my donations at a bin, but now I will make sure they are given to a non-profit organization.

Related link... The donation bin ON THE PARKING LOT of the Bissell's Center doesn't belong to them. They don't even know who owns it and have the police looking into it. Pretty crazy! Most would assume the donation bin there would go to Bissells.

Thanks for posting a related story. That is a perfect example of people just stealing clothes from the needy to make a profit.
