Okay, I know I post on here a lot and I need to quit with that but I just wanted to share a story that happened to me today.
Well, a few weeks ago I ran into some issues using my brandsaver coupons at wal-mart and price matching at the same time on toothbrushes. See I'm collecting toiletries to help my brother as him and his classmates from his school program are taking a trip to Haiti in March. They've been raising money and are going to help build a new schoolhouse for some children, but they're also collecting small toiletries that they can take down in their suitcases with them for Haitians.
Well over Christmas was when I learned about brandsaver and websaver and such from a friend of mine and when all of those coupons were released on brandsaver at the begginning of January I decided I was going to get as many as I could to help my brother in collecting toiletries for the trip.
After I ran into the issues with Wal-Mart and how rude they were to me about using "so many" coupons at once I decided to hang onto the coupons for a while and see if I could use them elsewhere other than wal-mart. Being as they aren't leaving until March I had time. Well that turned out to be the greatest idea of all.
My brothers and I currently reside in a "smaller" town. It's not totally tiny but there are still remnants of what small town life was like before wal mart and mcdonalds and such moved into town. There's one grocery store in particular near where I live that's a family owned grocery store - it's quite like the "Dosey's Market" on the Gilmore Girls (if anyone's ever watched that show). Tiny little store, cashiers don't have uniforms they just wear their own clothes, ya know, small town kind of feel.
This week they were advertising oral b toothbrushes for $1.12. I immediately thought, wow that would be great. 12 cents a toothbrush with the brandsaver coupon would be so helpful for my brother if I could get him a bunch of those. So I went.
I ended up asking the cashier if I could grab a whole whack of them and he said that it would be fine and he knew there were more in back so I could take as many as I needed. (I was worried about clearing a whole shelf worth because it's such a small store!) So I went to the back and ended up grabbing 27 of them - because that's how many brandsaver coupons I managed to rally up from my friends and my relatives, etc...
When I was going through the till the cashier asked me why I was purchasing so many toothbrushes. So I told him about my brother and the trip he's taking with his school program and how they're collecting toiletries and I'm trying to help as much as I can by using the coupons to in hopes get him more.
He was quite surprised with my story and he asked me if it wasn't too much if I could bring my brother into the store one day before he left so he could chat with my brother about it and ask him all of the details. Because it's right near our house I told my brother and he agreed to come in with me a few hours later when he was off work.
The cashier had all these questions about where they were going and what got my brother interested in this program he's a part of and he kept telling my brother he thought he was a really amazing person for being a part of something like this. We ended up spending about an hour in the store talking to this man all about my brothers trip and how I've been trying to help him and how they've been raising money since last september and my friend that showed me brandsaver and how I was using it to help him get as many toiletries as possible and how they were leaving in march.
Turns out the cashier that we were talking with is one of the owners of the store. He was so impressed with what my brother was doing and wanted to help out too. He told us he wouldn't take no for an answer and He donated some of his stores toiletries (some toothpaste and stuff), wrote a $500 cheque for my brother to give to his programs fund for building the schoolhouse and he also gave my brother and I $100 and told us to go down to wal mart and get as many of the cheap toiletries as we could and not feel guilty if we cleared out a shelf because it was for a good cause and he wanted my brother to have more toiletries to take with him on his trip! He gave the $600 bucks in exchange for my brother promising to bring back pictures from the trip so that he can hang them in his office. My brother also gave him the contact information of the professor in charge of the program and the cashier/owner says that he's going to contact him and see if he could possibly provide money to help buy some books for the school or do something else to help improve on the project they were taking on.
There are some really amazing, amazing people in this world.

I'm still kind of in awe over the whole afternoon and how amazingly nice that was of him. Pretty amazing. Pretty amazing indeed.
