My breastfed babies are always skinny and under the curve. I joke that my milk is skim milk instead of homo milk.
I can't even imagine how scary it is for you. I hope you get answers soon.

I was thinking about you today. How are things going? Have you received any news?

I just have time to update before passing out.
Its been a very long week for us. The results of her sweat test came back friday. The doctor comes into the tiny little cubicle like examining room and says "The results are okay. She does not have cystic fibrosis but I'm afraid we're going to have to admit you to the hospital immediately. You have to wait here until pediatrics has a bed for you. I can't allow you to go home."
So began five days of excrutiating, test filled hell to find out what was wrong with our little angel and start treating it.
Turns out SO FAR the tests have shown three things. Two that have been active since birth and one she just picked up.
CMPA (Cows Milk Protein Allergy)
elevated TSH (which means she may have hypothyroidism if it gets higher, I have that. She needs to be retested in 4-6 monthes)
and..
FRIGGIN SALMONELLA!
How the hell did my infant child pick up salmonella? Who the heck knows, certainly not I, and certainly not the doctors. But she's on antibiotics for it now.
Thank you everyone so much for your wonderful prayers and positive thoughts during all this. Reading the heartfelt emails during our stay in the hospital meant so much, even when we were unable to reply.

Hoping the little one responds well to the treatment, and that all is well soon!
As for how the salmonella came about - it could be from the water mixed with formula, cross contamination from other people, or from being around reptiles.

Glad to hear you finally have some answers! I hope you and your family get a chance to rest up; it sounds like a rollercoaster of a week! I think your theory about getting the salmonella from people touching her is a good one... Unfortunately, a lot of people tend to be pretty lackadasical regarding handwashing when it's not considered to be cold and flu season

Its true, which is why I try to wash my hands extra often. I don't know why people assume if its not flu season, they dont need to be clean.
