Congrats on your success, but I'd rather not use a coupon that's clearly not for the correct product.

Some times store may intentionally allow you and I think that should be ok. I am not supporting to cheat the system but if store allows then it is up to them.
I remember I asked my cashier if I could use the vo5 styling product FPC on vo5 oil message thing. The girl was reading the coupon and mumbling it is not the right product but they allowed me without saying any thing to me. I heard the other cashier lady (who was a senior cashier) saying to her that they would still redeem the coupon as they sold that styling product. The other (senior) cashier lady knew me since I used to shop a lot at that store but we never ever chat. So I think it might be ok depending on your store.
