I think I just had a brilliant thought re garden slugs....

I was just outside with Jenny, looking at our hostas and the nibbles that were taken out of them and I remembered that scatting dog hair around them tangles up the slugs so that they can't get near the plants, and they just dry out and die.
Not having a hairy dog around anymore, I wondered about other sticky stuff that can be used, when I thought of those sticky Halloween spidery webs! What about setting them around hostas and other plants to tangle up slugs and creepy things?
Would they stay sticky?

Anyway.....just the mental meanderings of someone waiting for a pooch to poop.

I also heard that if you make a little dish of beer for them, I personally think they get drunk on the beer and don't feel like eating so they leave the hosta's alone, hahaha.

I heard from City Line (Carson Arthur) that beer just brings all the slugs to your yard and egg shells don't so a thing to stop them either but I don't think he said what would work.

I was told the beer has to be in a tinfoil plate to work? I didnt have much luck with beer last summer.
I think I'll catch more neighbours then slugs.

Proven Winners will tell you egg shells...They don't like the feel of it and it does eat away at their skin. But slowly.

I broke down and bought Scotts snail bait. It does work. Think it was $7 or 8 for a small bag.
After it rains is the best time to go out and pick up the little buggers and put them in the garbage. Thats been the most effective way for me!

ewwww gross!! I don't think I could do that.

Before I went and picked up pet-friendly slug & snail bait, I took salt and melted all the slugs I could find!! LOL it was a last resort, cuz I was pissed off that they ate ALL my carrots...

I bought snail poison too. So tired of holes in all my hostas! Tried beer and egg shells-nothing worked...well on the beer they got bigger thus making bigger holes! Dh says they got the munchies with all the beer they drank

haha I love this thread - My MIL hates slugs and she puts little dishes of beer everywhere for them - She must be a great hostess because she gets tons of Slugs - She then spends hours slug hunting and cuts each one in half before disposing of them. She is completely grossed out by them! I am thinking shes attracting all these slugs with the beer lol too funny.

Ooooh, I love this pet hair idea... does it actually work ? One of my cats is long haired and a serious shedder.....I'm thinking he needs a lion's cut soon

My gran used to put salt on them too when we were kids in England. Loads of slug their! Shudder. They give me the heebie jeebies.
