....ahh, yes...I wondered about the soda, too...good point, Patty...I was concerned about it staining also, but with the chat below the recipe, it doesn't seem to be a problem! So glad it works!!

Baking soda also neutralizes odours.

but does it evaporate cleanly like the Febreeze???
I'ld worry about it leaving residue on the fabric (the Fabric Softenener part) and leaving stains.

I made a mixture with the Downy beads (half of the sample pack) with 2 tbsp of baking soda.
Poured it in an empty Febreze bottle, filled it up with warm water and shook until it was all dissolved.
Then I took my bf's day worn shirt and gave it a good spray. The next day, it was fresh smelling!
Not sure if the scent was masked or it actually dissipated...either way, great for a quick fix.

hmmmm...i am a HUGE Febreeze fan, but do find it expensive even with coupons. Sounds like you have the same coloured couch as I do (light beige Micro-Suede) so maybe i'll give it a shot.
I will put a small disclaimer here for anyone that has pets....I would be careful about using it on carpets that your pets frequent. Just in case they lick their paws and ingest the softenener or beads. I know it's only a little bit put in the concoction but im sure even a little bit in their systems might cause some problems....IMO

LOL no... but clear alcohol was required. Will try to look up the recipe and post.
This was the recipe I used but I added an ounce of vodka.
http://sara-vs-sarah.blogspot.ca/201...th-recipe.html
This site explains the reason for the alcohol... they mention "high proof" but I just used regular vodka.
".....The alcohol in your fabric refresher will accomplish two goals, first and foremost it helps the liquid evaporate quickly so your fabric refresher doesn't leave your clothes damp and you don't need drying time between layers of bedding. Secondly it helps the essential oil and the water blend better. It doesn't completely break down the oils (I did a test to see) but when you shake the bottle prior to spraying, the oils break down into the tiniest little particles which are well dispersed throughout the liquid and stay that way longer than you'd need them to for any single use....."Last edited by Tbites; Thu, Jun 28th, 2012 at 10:30 PM.

I'm going to try this too, but keep a bit of the vodka to make cleaning a *better* chore...

Here is another great use for fabric softener. I love the Downey wrinkle releaser spray but find it pricy. Found this recipe on" One Good Thing by Jille" It works great and she has a lot of great ideas it is a great blog. Thanks for the idea for the homeade Febreeze!
DIY Wrinkle-Release Spray
1/3 cup liquid fabric softener (homemade or otherwise)
1/3 cup white vinegar
1/3 cup water
Directions:
Mix your three ingredients and pour them into a spray bottle. Then take your wrinkled garment, place it on a hanger, spray generously on clothing then tug and pull item to smooth. Hang or lay flat to dry. If you are in a rush, toss it in the dryer for a few minutes after misting, and you’re good to go!
Unwrinkling your clothes without plugging in the iron is today
