<Only impacting Ottawa region>
I am sure some of you already know that effective Nov 2012, the garbage pickup schedule will change from weekly to biweekly..

I understand that city is trying to optimize in spending and invest the money in other initiatives, but one thing for sure, if there is no visible change seen from these savings, I will be writing to the city to revisit the property tax calculations and contacting the decision makers....

I forgot this was happening... the raccoons are already brutal in my area, it's going to be so hard to keep them away from our garbage for two weeks at a time.

We have bi-weekly garbage pick-ups, it's not a big problem. One week is household garbage and week 2 is recycle.
Mr Penguin built a large wooden container for garbage bags which keeps out all but the most determined bears
The smell is pretty much contained.
Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

In Saskatoon, we have bi-weekly in the winter, and weekly in the summer. It's okay that way.

The change will be effective October 29th.
Personally for our household, I don't see this as a big issue as most stuff ends up in the green bin and the recycling bins. The green bin pickup will be weekly all year now. What ends up in our garbage most is cat litter (I know in theory it can go in the green bin, but the clumping, clay litter is just not compostable) and I close the individual bags from daily scooping tightly and then do the full litter change the day before the garbage pick up.

I believe if this does save the city millions of dollars, then I too would like to know what they do with these savings. I would hate for them to be bumping up their own salaries instead!!! We don't care so much that they are picking up garbage every two weeks..my only complaint is that last garbage day, CITY WORKERS that were working across from my house dumped their garbage on my lawn after the garbage guys left. If my husband wasn't working out of the country that day, then i would have gone over their and said something but i was scared as i was home alone. It is ridiculous!!

You should have complained to the city. As far as I know, contractors are supposed to haul their trash away.
