    Hi Ladies,
Bought 2 more big bags of cucumbers at the Co-Op, they are grown in one of the local green houses and if the cukes are not perfect too big, small, mis-shaped, they are weighed at 5 pounds and bagged go for $4.99, they are the long English cucumbers, great for making relish and bread and butter pickles, not so great for dill pickles, can buy them like this all year long, so made 4 more batches of sweet relish. hopefully this will last until fall. Also made a batch of freezer raspberry and blackberry jam.
The Co-Op also had bags of too ripe bananas, so bought 2 of those and made 4 batches of oatmeal banana muffins today.
    Happy Canning Everyone!

I could not find rhubarb to save my life in stores. Mom's plant is not producing enough to get what we needed to make grandma's rhubarb relish so I put out word i was looking to trade for some including a ad on kijiji. I offered up some aveeno body washes that i am allergic to in trade and someone offered up the rhubarb they could not use for free. I still gave her the aveeno (I don't intentionally over stock on free items to trade off, but I can't guess what I will be allergic to!) We wound up with a laundry basket full of rhubarb!!! Wholey rhubarb batman!!! If you are having trouble finding some kijiji might be a place to go.

I am all set to make cherry pie filling tomorrow. Got a large bucket of frozen pitted cherries, sugar and clear gel. I even bought the Blue Book guide to preserving.

Now the problem. I cannot find a recipe using clear gel to can cherry pie filling. Does anyone here have one? Thanks so much.

Thanks cheekysaver for the recipe. It worked perfectly. Your link was a bit wrong, so here is the correct link:

Watching the video was brillant, as I had never used clear gel before and in the video she shows how to use it very well. Today I made 8 pints of cherry pie filling and it all worked perfectly.

I am glad it worked for you. We have been canning. When I say we that means Mom and I are canning the same thing so we do it together. We did rhubarb relish and got 14 half pints (that we split up) We did strawberry rhubarb pie filling 14 pints. Tomorrow we are finishing off the rhubarb and making 2 batches of jam... you guessed it. rhubarb ... and a batch of strawberry. LOL I am sitting down and doing all the prep work with mom and we take turns stirring the pot and jarring things up. We work really well together.

LOL well Mom and I do not can together often. When we do, we do big batches. Only half of this will be mine. For around $30 in food stuffs including produce sugars and pectin and vinegar we produced about 70 jars. Now we know everything that went into it... that it was done correctly and at the best prices when you have to buy your stuff. I have been buying things for canning on sale for months like vinegar and sugars to get ready for the season. When I started out It was one batch at a time too. I love it and find canning to be addictive.
