Lots of soups-two versions of each: the rich one and the healthier one. Some pasta dishes (ho, hum) and hand fruit pies! Great colour photography for the mixed drinks-think watercolour pastels.
May 1 is the NEXT issue date-birthday cakes will be featured! Yes, let's all have May birthdays and bake cakes.
-
Oh, MAY issue is coming out tomorrow! Thought I had another week. We are all May people so we can eat cake. :cake:

Got my copy yesterday and that Raspberry Cream Cake looks yummy! Ditto the carrot topping on the tostadas in the magazine! Nice servingware shown or outdoor parties (two kinds of beverage dispensers, chilled condiment server) plus garnishing tips for beverages!
Mark June 26 in your smartphones, pda, datebooks, online calendars-Summer issue will be out then!

Too muggy to trek to the store. Did any SCer pick up their copies today? What are the recipes du jour that appeal? Any coupons or offers inside?

The issue has a look back at some recipes over the years-the first issue(chefs update the six recipes) and then over the years. Also what the 5 ways to eat and 5 ways to drink have changed. Of course, an article about the origins of the magazine was included! There is a two-page spread showing the covers of the published issues.
Balderson cheese ad (outside back cover) mentions www.wincheese.ca for testing your cheese knowledge.
There is a mention of a certain wine by Robert Mondovian-as of Sept. 15, those bottle labels will offer $2 off Cracker Barrel cheeses (certain sizes), so if you are buying wines of that brand, look for the offer.
Two little booklets were included with the bagged issue:
Parents action on drugs>about how parents need to inform their offspring about the dangers of alcohol consumption/alcohol poisoning, marijuana use, over the counter medication matters/not using others' medicines, etc.
Ontario Southwest-weekend daytrip itineraries to explore local food/drink/tourism sites to keep your inner foodie engaged.

This weekend from the Holiday issue I made the "30 minute marvels" pasta. I substituted whole wheat spaghettini for linguine, ham for prosciutto, pepper jack for goat cheese, and Greek yoghurt for whipping cream. So basically, I didn't follow the recipe much. :tongue10: ;)

Easy and yummy.
And, it certainly doesn't look anything like the professional magazine photo, it's a picture only a mother would love ;) :lo1l: the sausage, white bean & kale soup:

The soup definitely didn't take 30 minutes, and 4 cups of stock wouldn't have been enough liquid, so I tripled the stock.
I'm pleased with how the soup turned out, I really like the flavours.
