I welcome the 10 year passport. I do a lot of traveling and having to go through the hassle every 4.5 years (most countries require you have a minimum of 6 months left on a passport to travel) to renew it.

Not true really. As long as your passport is still valid when your return ticket is used the passport is usable.

I went to the Mississauga office today and was jam packed, it took ages, but I did go later in the day so I expected it. Since I am traveling to the UK at the end of summer I wanted to get in as soon as the 10 yr was available. They are still committing to a 10 day delivery so I will have it in plenty of time.

Love Lilo0003's first comment. Looking 45 when you are 55....priceless indeed.

I just applied for my 10 year passport last week.
I thought that I was going to have to take a day off work to go to the office, then I noticed that the Whitby office is open on Saturdays!
It opens at 9:00, so we got there early. There was already a largish lineup at the locked doors at 8:30 . We waited in line, and they actually opened the doors early (8:45), pre-screened everyone quickly (make sure that you have the correct papers, and separating the regular applications from the simplified applications) so that we each got a number. They started actually taking people at the wickets at 8:55, and they went through people at a furious pace.
We were out of the place at 9:15. I have never seen such efficient service at a government office, and very few private offices. I was greatly impressed.
Two thumbs up for the passport office!

My SO got his new passport in the mail! The pages are prettier and there's a computer chip in the back cover. It has to be treated like an electronic so you can't get it wet, bent or folded. I rather haven less expensive ugly passport that I don't have to be so careful with.
