Thread: Tax Software recommendations?
-
Thu, Jan 31st, 2013, 03:01 PM #1
Any recommendations on which Personal Tax Software I should use to do mine and my husbands taxes this year?? I usually have the same woman do them every year, but my taxes are so totally basic, that it seems stupid to pay her more than the software costs.
Anyone know which is best?? Any additional info is much appreciated.

I like studiotax and it's FREE. Used it for several years now and it's easy.

I've used Ufile for a number of year. While it's not free, it does allow you to use netfile so you won't need to print a return. In some cases you can file your return free, e.g. newcomer, student, low income, etc. Worth checking out.

I have used both Turbo Tax (formerly quicktax) and Ufile and they both work great. I used quicktax first with no problems. I only switched to ufile because i was working a contract with cra and it was offered free to employees. ufile was able to take all the info from the previous year quicktax progam and apparently turbo tax will do the same

StudioTax. I have been using it for several years now. Tried the other pay version of software but in the end StudioTax had the highest returns.

Another studiotax user. I am an accountant that is currently a stay at home mom and while studiotax is not the most user friendly program I have seen, it is awesome for a free program that lets you netfile.

I have used Mytaxexpress for the last 5 years, it is free to download but there is a cost to print/efile your return.

Sounds like studiotax might be the way to go. I will look into all those recommended to decide.
Thanks everyone.

Studiotax is listed on the CRA page. I can't see them recommending a program that doesn't work well. And it's free.
http://netfile.gc.ca/sftwr2012-eng.htmlI can't profess to understand God's plan. Christ promised the resurrection of the dead. I just thought he had something a little different in mind.

The cra link shows the software that "works" it's not a recommendation or anything, they do test the software to make sure it does the calculation properly, but they don't test for user friendliness or anything like that. And the list posted is still for the 2011 tax year (so there will be a new one once Netfile opens Monday Feb 11th)
