Calamine lotion also works really well. One dd in particular was a favorite of the critters, and I made sure I always had a bottle on hand, just for her

I read that bugs dislike the scent of tea tree oil. Try applying some of that to your exposed skin and see if that helps.

Vicks vapo rub or tiger balm or monkey balm.....it leaves a tingling sensation that helps with the itch.
I was in Asia for a month and got eaten alive. Tiger balm saved me. I was ready to scratch my arms off.

to help with the itching, try vicks vaporub.
for the swelling part, try vaseline intensive care cocoa butter body lotion.

by the way, the worst mosquito bite i ever experienced was from those salt marsh mosquitoes. scary, come to think of it.
