I tried the soft plastic ones for kids. They're good, no unpleasant plastic smells at all and do not leak either. Only thing is the size is small, but of cuz it's designed for little ones...
I opened an adult one when at store, found it's very smelly... some say the smell will go after a few days' wash n use. I did not purchase and can't comment on it....

I got the one picture below for DD (she also has a milk order for lunch). I don't like it because if too much pressure is put on the bottle it leaks. Not sure if I got a dud or if it's the design. If I tip it upside it's fine but if you squeeze it, water comes out from in between the actual bottle and the lid. Not good when it gets tossed around and squished in her backpack. She just uses it at home now.

I have a few of the Brita Soft Squeeze bottles and I love them! They are portable as I throw it into my backpack for school.
The downsize is the filter, it just takes too long for water to trickle through the small filter (smaller than the size of a penny). The faster method for me is using water I already filtered in my large Brita then pouring it into the portable bottle. Maybe it's just this one bottle or I haven't been filtering the water correctly but I'm not sure why the water takes a very long time to filter through...

I bought a couple because I got them free :D They're not bad for little water bottles. The biggest plus for me is that they have the wide mouth so i can put in ice.

An update to why the filter is slow! I don't know why they don't have instructions on the bottle, but a friend was telling me that when your pour tap water into the Brita water bottle, as you drink the water it gets filtered. Hopefully this makes sense!

I love my Brita Water bottle. I've had it for about 4 years and its still in very good condition. We change the filters every so often on them. The filters come in packs of 2 so its not terribly expensve
