Anyone here have a good suggestion as to what make of chest freezer to buy. I'm thinking of getting a 8.8 or larger cu ft freezer. We have two chest freezers currently but they are staying with the home when we move. They are both 40+ years old so we didn't want to move them.

Better to get a new one, it will be more energy efficient for sure.

I got mine from Sears 10 years ago with our wedding money, has done us well so far. I didn't want a huge one, as I remember my mom's deep freeze, that had stuff in the bottom that hadn't seen the light of day for years. I think ours is Frigidaire? Chest is more roomy than upright, although upright means you don't have to climb in to get to the bottom if you're not tall!

I would recommend you look at upright freezers. Not the big money difference there was in the past and much easier to keep track of your inventory. As for roominess, you are buying cubic feet so upright and chest should be the same.
The new freezer will be more energy efficient but probably not around in 40 years.
I just bought a Frigidaire 2 months ago.
