I think the capped overage charges & penalty charges are the most significant ..no more a $ 10,000 accidental roaming or data charge on your bill What the new CRTC Wireless Code means for mobile users

I don’t have an annual contract, I’m on month to month.
Did you know that monthly data overage and roaming rates have now been capped?
Now, if you gobble up a huge amount of mobile data your penalty fee cannot exceed $50.
Likewise, if you use international data while travelling there will be no price-shocking thousand-dollar charge when you get home:
Roaming rates are capped at $100.
Also, you now have a seven-day grace period to top up your prepaid account and retain your balance.

I've never had shocking bills.... yet....
- I don't give my phone to children
- I choose a cellphone carrier that offers good coverage that does not having me paying roaming charges IN CANADA.
- I check Telus' mobile website regularly to monitor for surprises
- I do get myself a travel package for medium use outside of Canada
- I do use Roam Mobility sim card swap when I know I will be using heavy data when travelling (>300 mb each month).
http://www.roammobility.com/talk-text-data - I use ATT where Roam Mobility does not offer coverage in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Jellystone
- I use Asian SIM cards when I'm in China and Hong Kong
- Yes, I did get my Blackberry unlocked.
- I do pay attention to overage warnings and confirm activity online
I love using my smartphone outside of Canada
- skip unsecured hotel wifi that is often congested
- use Google Maps when I'm lost
- plan and lookup public transit schedules on the go
- make restaurant reservations before I arrive
- confirm tourist attraction hours
- confirm my flight
- create and research my day itinery one the bus or waiting for the bus
- lookup restaurant reviews wherever/whenever I am
- create wifi hotspots for my tablets and laptop
I was very happy with the previous 3 year lower priced plans, not happy with the higher 2 year plan changes. Why did the CRTC have to mess with a good thing. I have no sympathy for people who buy crap phones with built-in batteries that wear out after 18 months.

The Federal bill came into effect in December 2013, but provinces can add their own provisions.
Ontario's is as of April 1
