Hi, can anyone please tell me where the food bank in Oshawa is...I ran into money problems and I am screwed for another month, one that will give me food that children will eat. Thank You in advance. I also have coupons I can trade for food. Please let me know.

There are some wonderful resources in the above posts. Which coupons do you have? We can help you match them up for potentially free food. IE if you have the $2 Iogo Probio coupon, Food Basics had it on sale for $1.99 last week, no tax. They may have it again this week unadvertised. It IS advertised in a Brampton flyer for $1.99, Oceans Fresh Food Market, so if Walmart has it you can PM. No Frills has KD for .48 this weekend only, use the $1 WUB2 printable from the Kraft site and only pay tax.
What do you have in the cupboard right now? Do you have some flour and baking powder? You can make biscuits in 15 minutes. They are good plain, with honey, jam, PB, or help round out meals. Baking powder can be made or bought for a few cents at all bulk food sections.
Try calling local butchers or places with meat counters and ask if you can have some beef or pork or chicken bones. They might give them to you for free if you ask nicely. You can use them to make stock or broth, and if you have any rice or pasta or veggies you can add them to make soup. It's not Campbells but free is free.
Root vegetables are your friends, and can be found dirt cheap. Try PMing for potatoes, onions and carrots. Seasons Foodmart in Brampton has 10 lbs of Yukon Gold potatoes for $1.88. If you can scrape together a toonie that's several meals for a family of six- fries, baked, sliced. Keep the peels on for even more nutrition.
Ask your store's produce section if you can have the cut scraps of any veggies they have used to make prepared trays. Broccoli stalks, celery and carrot ends, sad mushrooms, that kind of thing. Give them a clean with a toothbrush- not yours LOL- and cut off any black parts. Brownish is still okay. Simmer them for a few hours with several cups of water, then strain out the cuttings. Add salt and pepper and any green spices that are in the cupboard, and you have vegetable stock, good with the aforementioned biscuits.
There is a Duirham Region stockpile trading group on Facebook. You can try trading your coupons for food items there, or any extras of things that you may have. Services too, try house cleaning or dog walking or babysitting as an exchange. I don't kinow what else you can barter with, but use your skiills
Go get your coupons and report back. Also you have to let us know how things worked out with the food assistance programs!Last edited by Durham Couponer; Fri, Mar 14th, 2014 at 05:59 AM.
