Ok so let me preface by saying my friend is taking me to Costco tomorrow so I've done a lot of research about what things (as couponers) are good/not good to buy from Costco.

I know their meat prices are not competitive, but DH and I are insanely picky about our food, in particular our meat, so I'm never going to buy a cheaper cut of meat because it's a better price, however I will always look for deals of course! I happen to adore Costco's meat (in particular their roast beef and chicken).

There's quite a few types of meat on sale this week in the flyers of regular grocers (such as boneless chicken thighs and ground beef), so it got me wondering what meats I should buy tomorrow at Costco, and what I should buy at the grocery store instead.

Then I started thinking a chart would be a good idea (ie. cut of meat in one column and cost in the other). SO, I have made this thread a WIKI.

Please do feel free to add to it but please also do not delete someone else's inputs It might be comforting to know that although some are spending $2.99 a pound on lean ground beef, others think $3.99 a pound is acceptable if you really need it. Please also include your province so we can get an idea of what sales we should be on the look out for where we live!

After doing a Google search I found this link to an old thread started on SC that didn't really get too far, but it gave me some baseline pricing:

    http://forum.smartcanucks.ca/344593-...prices-canada/

So, thank you to Frugal Lisa for starting the thread; and to blueeyetea and frugalmom2 as I borrowed some meat items from their lists to get us started with some ideas:

    Turkey/chicken thighs: $2.99/pound

    Frozen turkey - whole: $1.99 to $2.49/pound
    Chicken breasts-deboned: $4.99/pound
    Tuna about $1 a can
    Lean ground beef $2.49 lb

    I also found this:
    http://truecouponing.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/True-Couponing-Stock-Up-Price-Guide.pdf
However, it's honestly really dependant on where you live. And I have no clue where this chart comes from but I'm thinking am I really going to find chicken thighs for $0.50/lb!?? Anywhere in the states is gonna be so different from Canada, and even within Canada there's going to be massive differences. Each province pays more for certain things than for others.

Thanks in advance to everyone for your input!

**please don't forget to include the unit price (i.e. /lb, /kg)

I'm not sure my pricing will help but that's because dh and I shop at a premium meat farm that only buys from a small handful of ranchers that they have dealt with for years. The meat is all free range with hormone free meat. Basically farm to table fresh meat. With what seems to be meat recalls every other week (exaggerating) dh and I would rather know where our meat comes from.

Lean ground beef $2.99-3.99 wub 10lbs
    Chicken thighs $3.49/lb
    Top sirloin roast $13.99/lb

Last time I shopped I purchased $200 worth of a variety of meats and that was on January 16th and we still have meat leftover! Totally worth it in my opinion.

That sounds awesome! I do use my crockpot a lot, but haven't tried prepackaging meals to toss in and go.
