Nordstrom plans to add six Canadian locations by 2016, and spokesman John Bailey said the company hopes to ultimately have eight to 10 full-line stores in Canada, and 15 to 20 Rack outlet stores. It's also eyeing other potential opportunities.
"We have lots of customers in Canada who shop in our stores in the States and online, and we think we can do a lot of business in Canada," Bailey said.

Yes. Off Saks will also be coming to Canada

Saks, which was recently acquired by Canada's Hudson's Bay, has plans to open seven full-line stores and 25 Saks Off 5th stores, beginning in fall 2015.

If I remember correctly, one of those two chains stores was visited by a reporter in Buffalo, NY? to check out the customer service levels across different chains/price points. The dept. store staff were expected to help a customer with a smartphone setting! Seriously. Does the store pay premium wages to keep staff that trained??

Nordstrom is treading carefully in Canada, opening its second store on Friday – in Ottawa – another one in the fall in Vancouver and six in all by 2017. Industry watchers have roundly praised the offerings and look of the Calgary outlet, which opened in September, but the go-slow strategy has its costs: The Seattle-based company predicts tens of millions of dollars in annual operating losses before it can scale up to earn profits.
Nordstrom executives are “taking their time in order to make sure they get it right,” said Dorothy Lakner, managing director and retail analyst at Topeka Capital Markets in New York. Nordstrom is testing the waters in smaller markets and the efforts seem to be paying off in drawing customers, she said.
Mr. Nordstrom said the Calgary store’s sales per square foot – an important measure of retail productivity – exceed the U.S. chain’s average of $372 (U.S.) for its regular stores in 2013, although he didn’t provide specific figures.
After delaying the launch here of its discount Rack stores, which generated $553 sales per square foot in 2013, the retailer will introduce them in Canada beginning in the fall of 2017, he said. It eventually plans 15 or more Rack outlets.
The stakes are high. In 2014, Nordstrom posted an operating loss of $32-million for its Canadian startup and, this year, it expects the loss to almost double to $60-million, chief financial officer Mike Koppel said recently.

While the merchandise at Nordstrom's is nice, I have found it a bit overpriced for the bargain shopper. Not sure if these stores will make it in Vancouver as we're not as wealthy as our real estate market might suggest. I am predicting a tough haul.

As Nordstrom Inc. (JWN.N -0.21%) opens its second Canadian store, the upscale retailer is quick to assure consumers that its expansion here will not be a stripped down version of its U.S. operations.
“They don’t want the Canadian version, or Nordstrom light, they want our full deal,” Jamie Nordstrom, President of Stores at Nordstrom said in an interview with BNN.
Nordstrom opened its doors to shoppers in Ottawa on Friday, six months after its Canadian debut in Calgary. It plans to open a store in Vancouver later this year and another two in Toronto by 2016.
The retailer is entering the Canadian market just as U.S. discount giant Target Corp. is leaving. The latter announced the closure of its 133 Canadian stores after only two years in business.
Target Canada struggled with complaints of poor customer service and under-stocked shelves before filing for creditor protection on Jan. 15.
Nordstrom says the company is focused on reflecting the same level of service and brand choices that shoppers are used to in their stores in the U.S.

I disgree. I think nordstrom will be able to target mid price shoppers with their mid range brands like Vince cumuto and they also splurge once in a while on designer.

In addition to mid range, will also be able to entice luxury shoppers as well.Holt Renfrew is booming, especially with asian shoppers. Vancouver is one of their most profitable stores. If you are ever at PC, there area lot of pink bags. People spend a load of money there. If you are ever in the Holt Renfrew underground valet, there are a lot of nice cars.

Budget shoppers are not who they are targeting at the moment. If they open nordstrom rack, then they would get more budget shoppers who sometimes splurge on mid range.
