From the Montreal Gazette
The discount chain got its start in this country with the acquisition of 122 Woolco stores on March 17, 1994. Since then, Walmart Canada has more than tripled in size and employs nearly six times as many people.
"The expectations in terms of everyday low pricing certainly was something that Walmart focused on from Day One," said Daniel Baer, a retail analyst at Ernst and Young.
"If you think back 20 years ago you would never have expected (those major) price reductions."
Walmart has 389 stores and more than 95,000 associates, up from 16,000 employees in 1994.

You seem to be concerned about Walmart's lack of good prices lately... lol
I don't think they'll do much. I think we've seen the last of the heavy discounts. They are sitting back laughing at Target for coming in way under projected earnings. They have no reason to drop prices any lower. *cries*

Things change, I don't see the changes as bad. Walmart implementing the Ad matching certainly exceeds my expectations. SDM has stepped up its game with the personalized offers, Superstore has the PCplus program, fantastic savings with that, plus we get discounts on gas from the receipts there. Petsmart pms the US flyer. Target allows us to stack their coupons with manufacturers' coupons. There always seems to be great options open to us.
Be sure to click like and post a brag if you get the deal.. It makes my day!!! Flattery may just get you more deals
Be sure to double check your flyer, points and cashback offers~ YMMV

We are due for wicked deals but I don't think we will get them... unless there are amazing coupons to match the sales with.

I am going to be optimistic.
You see, I was hoping that Walmart reads this thread. Was also planning to contact Walmart, online, and let them know how much I look forward to their anniversary sale and hoping for great deals.
If other SCers did that too, maybe this will make a difference.

Walmart is smart and has been around for many many years because they undercut the competition. I bet they will have ultra good deals.
20th anniversary = mega big deal. Great marketing opportunity to capitalize on. Shows just how "reliable" they appear compared to Target which has been around for less than 1 year. longevity vs. Target Canada losing $1 billion last year. People don't trust Target yet. (I'm commenting on the general population, not couponers, which is a very small group).
Target is not their only competitor. They've got Loblaws, Sobeys, Metro, Toys R Us, the Hardware store, the electronics stores. They will ramp it up and show Loblaws (Canada's #1 retailer) who is boss (Walmart, the world's #1 retailer)

Good post.
Maybe buying some Walmart stock may be an idea.
Yes, Canadian Tire has been a good competitor during Walmart's Anniversary sale in the past.
Fallenpixels posted this nice flyer in September 2010.
*sigh, those were the days*
