I saw on the Dr. Oz show that Shirataki noodles are supposed to be almost calorie free, are fat free, and really good for you. I've been looking for a while, but eventually found Shirataki Tofu noodles at Metro. Well, I tried them last night. They were in a pouch with liquid, and I rinsed them well and decided to pan-fry them, as recommended by another SC'er (I can't remember who). Anyway, after pan-frying them and getting rid of the excess liquid, I added them to some steamed broccoli and some curry sauce and served them up as a side dish. My husband didn't notice that they were any different than any other noodles I've cooked. I thought they were pretty good, and I'll probably buy them again, especially if I see them on sale at Metro for $1, as I've been told them go on sale. Has anyone else got another recipe for them?

I have used them in the past, if you don't rinse them well they are not so good!!You can use them in place of any noodle dish. There is a recipe book series called Hungry Girl and she has some good recipes!!

I read that there are different kinds of these noodles out there. If you buy the ones that are made with or have Tofu added to them then they are not calorie free. Plus they have to be refrigerated if Tofu is involved. Only the ones made from yams ( a Japanese yam I think it said? ) They make powder from the yams and then make the noodles from that powder. So maybe I will look for those ones and give them a try. The hungry gal suggested to only cook them in a frying pan ( same way you did OP) with a spray of non stick in the pan for about 8 minutes ( dry fry she called it).
I am on board to search some out and try them now, thanks for the post travel-mum

I have used the refrigerated ones but I just found the ones you can buy on the shelf at Sobeys in the gluten free section.

I've been using them for a few years and find them at choices market or on line at the low carb grocery. I try to avoid the tofu ones in favour of the konjac, but sometimes can't find those. I rinse them very well before using in recipes as they can taste fishy.

Thanks, this sounds like another variety of noodles that I should try to find and cook at home.

You can also buy them online, sometimes they go on sale and are a decent price if you can reach free shipping minimums.

last night as I made a slow cooking beef stew I turned it into more of a goulashy type thing by adding some 0% fat plain Greek Yogurt and those Shirataki noodles! Extra flavour and bulked up the serving size without adding to the calories.
