Oh, Mia, sorry you are in such a state!
Maybe it comes with age and/or experience, but one soon learns to just avoid toxic people in one's life - and you learn to recognize the signs.
If it's family, then just keep as much distance (emotionally and/or physically) as possible.

OP, don't know the exact problems, but that's o.k.
If it helps, maybe your Garfield avatar can cheer you a little.
Maybe a new Garfield

I actually wrote a letter last year, to my SIL from hubby and I, saying that her moods and drama, and we're only good when she needs something, which was too often...was too much. The letter stated that we've chose to distance ourselves because she caused too much grief in our lives, and that our family happiness was too important to deal with her uproars, and requests. Needless to say we haven't heard from her......and we don't miss it....honestly, sometimes you just have to cut loose the things that drag you down.
....just be happy

I agree with Natalka. Get away from Toxic people.
I have a ONE person in my life that have GENUINE problems, not of her own making and her life is very unpleasant. That is the one person that I will let drain my emotional energy. . .because she deserves the support. Other than that, I restrict people that have never-ending problems to email only. When I'm up to addressing their issues, i do so through email. Otherwise, it'll suck the life right out of you.
Just my 2 cents worth

Congratulations on making a very difficult decision for all the right reasons. We did the same many, many years ago (DH's mother) and never looked back! It's our own survival and the survival of our immediate family members we have to concern ourselves with...and that's not stating it too strongly. Toxic people can be the worst people in our lives and as as MQ posted, they'll suck the life right out of us!!
Mia, I'm so sorry for the situation you find yourself in...be less available, if possible, it's OKAY to say NO! No matter WHO it is!
Hugs, Sweetheart....
