In today's edition of the Toronto Star, Gordon Pape had an article detailing the issues that came up for him in the process of completing his late wife's return. She passed away last year and he filed her return recently.
He mentioned how a final tax return cannot be filed online which created a pension income splitting guess on his part and involved using customer support for the tax software he uses for his return. He also lists other things to take note of, as the CRA provides a 33-page booklet for final returns.
