Shrubs and Plants for yard

I'm not sure if this is the right category to be asking this...but I am in need of some advice from people have done some landscaping. What plants/trees are easiest to maintain and won't grow to a crazy height? I love weeping willow trees but I've heard they are not a good choice. What do you think of Hydrangea's? Maple trees? Boxwood? Any suggestions would be great. Thank you !

No, don't feel that way - I still learn about new things on SC all the time.

Just want to add, we moved to a house that has lilac bushes - it was absolutely wonderful to have them blooming this spring!
