Every now and then it's nice to splurge on a luxury item and what's more affordable and luxurious than an old fashioned bar of soap?
Liquid soaps are great but there is something about the tactile feel of making suds from a bar of soap and taking those few extra minutes out of the day for yourself. Just letting yourself not be hurried, to relax and enjoy the feel of that soapy, wet bar and indulge in the fragrance of an age old affordable luxury. Perhaps, even to share a favorite brand with the very, very wealthy.
Royals from days gone by may have bathed with your favorite old luxury bar of soap.
We're lucky today to have so many choices but there is something to be said for tradition.

Here's a few of my favorites
Tried and true Dove moisturizing soap. Love the scent and it's so soothing.
For summer months when you don't need as much moisture, I like Mysore sandal soap.
Yardley lavender soap is another for the summer and as a bonus it can be found in the Dollarstore.
A new favorite is Rosalface soap, made in Portugal. I've tried it on my face and so far it cleans well and leaves your skin so smooth.
Another made in Portugal soap that is on my wish list is Claus Porto deco soaps. The look beautiful and is one of Oprah's favorite things.
Love Lush's Honey I washed the kids soap but have only tried the sample size. It's moisturizing and has a nice mild smell.
Two that I love and no longer see is Caress and baby's own soap. The best things in life...aren't things

I rarely use soap as it tends to irritate and dry my skin. If I'm going to use soap on my face I find that Dove is the best. I've also used the Hannam soap by Yves Rocher on my body. It's rather expensive but I like the smell and it works in summer.

Is it this one?

It sounds wonderful. Can't wait to try it.
Soap can be drying. Back in the old days they didn't bathe very often so it probably wasn't a problem.
I think once in a while it's still nice to lather up with good old fashioned soap and it's like opening up a little present every time you try a new barThe best things in life...aren't things

Dove is the only soap that doesn't dry my skin. Also Roger & Gallet is not bad:

Thanks French Lady. I'll let you know how I like it.
Mia, thanks for your pick. It's got a lot of history behind that line and they make fragrances too!

I also have sensitive skin and find that Cetaphil is the best soap. It's mild, non-scented and even removes makeup.

Atrubic, thanks for your pick. I used Cetaphil when I was looking for a gentle soap for my face some time back. What really worked for me after testing a few was Avene's cold cream bar. After using that a while, it totally freed me of sensitive skin on my face. Now I'm careful what I put on my face but so far, it's been fine.

Thanks Livelyone. Hotels have the best soaps!
Does it smell good? Where do you buy it?
Is it the massaging thing that you like? I've tried the one by Olay, which is actually another soap I like.

Some of my favourite luxury soaps are from the Gianna Rose Atelier collections. Beautiful!
Unique items and great deals to be found on the Halifax Cat Rescue Society auction page.

My ipad won't let me copy/paste images, but they're available here:

TrueNorthTreasures, The robin's egg soap are adorable in the nest.Nice for a guest soap.
Lynn49, one of the nice bonuses of soap bars is that they can double for drawer sachets.
So many soaps that I've never heard of. Love these. The best things in life...aren't things
