Ever since i purchased my house I have been getting power bills for 160+ per month. With the target LED deal of 1 dollar per bulb which I was able to get 6 and the replacement of my old water pressure tank which i PM kent a few months ago at homedepot and saved almost 80 bucks. I am now happy to announce my power bill is down to only 90 dollars a month. Thats a large savings and the new tank and light bulbs have already paid for themselves.

Not bad for a country home with electric hot water and a well.

I guess this goes to show that keeping up with house repairs saves money. Next adventure will be to get a heat pump to save on oil.

Nice!!! I noticed that the pump for the well water sure makes a huge difference in the use of hydro. Our old place was on city water that was included with our rent and our hydro bills were always atleast $20-$40 cheaper a month. Although I have never had to pay a water bill I would assume for two adults that we're actually getting the better end of the deal but that might help explain why still your hydro rates are higher.

I'd love to hang dry my laundry which would bring down my hydro even more but we have a serious mosquito problem here 24 hours a day so it would be impossible to do this without getting 40+ bites per load for taking out and taking in.

But congrats again on the savings as at this time of year our hydro bill is around the same as yours but we live in a 700 sqft home with a electric hot water heater as well.

I live in PEI. we have one of if not the highest electricity rates in Canada. I think I could get it down more if I put stuff out on the line to dry to but where i live its nothing buts bugs everywhere. The tank and lights really did make an impact. I now hope that I can keep my oil bill a little lower then 3500 this year which only does heat in 960 Sqft house. I know thats a lot the boiler is only now 3 years old but the guys that installed it did it wrong and I didn't realize till winter was almost over this year. From what I can tell I should be able to heat the house for about 1500 this winter. Then next year I am getting a heat pump.

Does anyone have a heat pump? What model do you have and how many BTU's and what does it cost to run.

Maybe we can start a list of ideas on how to reduce your electricity bill?
One thing you have to watch is "ghost" usage of hydro. That means your devices that use electricity even when you're not using them , like your computer and your tv. It's best to have these things on a power bar, and turn the power bar off at night.
