If it was a large sum of money this would be my plan. First I would speak to a financial person, to sock away a large portion of the money, that would last me into my elder years. I could live comfortably without pinching and scraping. Secondly I would either renovate my current abode or find something slightly larger but definitely not a mansion. I would give money to homeless shelters, animal shelters and a domestic abuse shelter. I would love to see Tahiti, Bora Bora, and the Cook Islands. Stay in one of those resorts with huts overlooking the ocean.

Go buy a property in the country and build a home that would be 100% off the grid and self sufficient. That would keep my busy enough for awhile!!

So many practical SC'ers!
If I won big I'd totally splurge on this (total splurge since I could only drive it in the Summer without the kids --- So pretty much never. lol).

Wow, ok I go......
pay off debts and tell them all where to go.
Set-up DS with a house and new car.
Give both sets of parents a ONE TIME LUMP SUM, after that no more.
Buy big beautiful house on large property just up the road that is for sale.
Bank the rest that will provide income for the rest of our remaining years.
Set up and run an animal shelter in our town as we don't have one.
None of the siblings ( both DH and mine) would get anything.Just call me Wolfie

That must be so frustrating, Hon....is the new drug, "migalistat" (sp?) in trials that your son could apply to take part in? It looks so promising; I admit I've never heard of Fabry disease until I looked it up...so sorry you and your son have to face this......blessings....Lynn

Lynn,I never heard of Migalistat until your post.Wow,oral meds ,that would be a big improvement over the current IV enzyme infusions that are standard treatment. He gets Fabrazyme twice a month as part of a national research program. We've known "IT" was inherited since he began showing the same symptoms as my brother during childhood. At least we know the name of the enemy now,and have a battle plan

I'd cash the cheque and put it in the bank to collect interest. Then I'd take an extended vacation somewhere tropical (having taken enough money out to do this before it goes in the bank, of course) to decide what to do with the money. If I need to take time to figure out what to do with a lot of money I may as well do it somewhere tropical.
And with my own personal cabana boy.
