Last weekend enjoying having kids home from school,
maybe last chance for hot weather,
closing up the cabin at the lake...

    What's up this long weekend?

    Move-a-rama.

The day has arrived! DH has gotten approval from the building inspector to move the in-laws into their home. So we are scrubbing away the construction dirt tomorrow; putting away the scaffolding and the paint cans; tweaking the last of the plumbing and then....spending monstrous sums of money on gasoline driving back and forth between the new place and the old place to haul their possessions and furniture.

They've lived at the old place for 16 years so much has accumulated there.

MIL has been so busy tending to FIL's needs these past months that she hasn't packed a thing.

Which meant I was sweet talking restuarant managers last evening to gain access to their cardboard recycling bins so we can get this show on the road. And I was moving their stuff alone in the pitch black (because it's absolutely ridiculous to drive an empty pick up home when I can deliver a load of stuff anyway. Why waste a trip???)

I'm proud of my DH for pulling it off.

I'm excited for them to realize their dream.

I'm somewhat bittersweet about having them literally 3 minutes away. I'm a very private person and now they will be right on top of me and I'm already feeling the pinch and the suffocation a little. LOL. I just need to change my attitude, I know.

How wonderful, Ninna! When our DD bought her second home (sold the first), she bought 3 blocks from us. It was great to have her so close, and when she and her hubby bought our big home, we downsized and bought her smaller one. She never wanted that house to go to a stranger, she loved it so much...well, we're still only 3 blocks away, and it seems like it's across town most days! They lead busy lives, but in the summer, walk over with our grandson to perch in the back yard, drive over for a quick coffee before work in the morning....close enough to feel close, far enough away for us to mind our own business, not theirs. And she works just another few blocks away, so I used to drive over after shopping and drop into her office and show her stuff I bought, have a good 'ol chat...It's not the distance, Sweetie, it's respecting each other's space...even if I invade hers at work... Which she missed this summer, she said, since my accident.

This weekend? Apparently we just HAVE to drive to the island to visit them in their new trailer on the property they're renting!!! Just HAVE to! I just hope we have at least one non-rainy day...sunshine for everyone the entire weekend would be perfect, but not forcast so far....

    happy labour day

as a person who was on strike (months after being hired) at canada post,
for six weeks which 'won' the first federal civil service union rights for a paid
maternity leave, i am always proud of what unions have gone through,,,
and the rights from their strikes etc. that extend into almost everyone's lives.

on the sadder silly side of this, my grandfather died in nova scotia at the end of this
strike, grandpa was a great guy, have very sweet memories and for some strange
reason - might be the weather right now of his perfect homemade lemonade.
so of course we drove (dad, the 2 brothers and me) from toronto by car
(whole other story - ever strain ditch water through a tshirt for the rad?) for his funeral.
when we got back days after the strike ended cp wanted proof of his death,
so i mentioned there was a postal strike, so couldn't get a copy of the
    halifax herald yet, geeee.

so besides relaxing ,,, wondering why i didn't get a bunch of lemons at the store, silly me.

yikes good luck ninna, any subtle way you can show her lynn's post?
hope the move went as well as it could
if you have some spare time
