I am in Nova Scotia, and my grandmother keeps losing her channels to (we are with a different company). She just lost Spike (her favorite channel since it has Cops on it) and they told her she would have to get digital cable to get it back, which would cost $7.00 more a month.

We lost tlc for a week and now it's back. A lot of channels are switching to digital and some providers are giving free digital boxes so you can get the channels back without upgrading your cable.

Yeah we're having the same problem. The only difference being we weren't paying for these channels in the first place and haven't been for years despite the number of houses we've moved to.
We have basic cable and so a rogers technician would install a "filter" on the cable line at the cable box (somewhere outside) therefore giving you only the channels you pay for. But some technicians are really nice and never give a darn so they remove the filter thus allowing us cheap basic cable people to get double if not more the channels for free.
But now everything is switching to digital so we will find we are loosing more and more channels and the only way to get them back is to install a digital TV box which are free from rogers. The only problem with that being that for those of us who are on basic cable we will only get the channels we are entitled to and pay for so it is really better for us to cling on to the last remaining non digital channels that we aren't entitled to then install the box and only get like 28 channels which most of are french, news or shopping channels.
DH keeps getting upset but I tell him you can't get upset when they take back something that was free and we weren' supposed to have anywasys.Insert Clever Signature Here

FYI if you only have basic cable but also have Internet with rogers, you can cancel the basic tv and it will not actually be canceled as the signal will still be coming through because of your internet. This is a loop hole that they currently have no way of fixing until they completely cancel the analog signal. This is what I have had for the past 10 years, since I found out about the loophole.

One option is getting a digital antenna- we get hd channels and pay NOTHING for them. We have 12 channels
I'm with go jays - you should call, they might work out a deal for you

I canceled my cable a couple of years back. I download my shows on the computer or watch them on Global or CTV websites. Netflix is pretty good too (and you can get the US version easily enough). It's easy to hook your laptop up to the TV if you want to watch it that way. I'm happy just watching on my computer.
