It's always nice to get the recommended minimum number of hours, but sometimes that's just not possible...
How much sleep do you manage to get each night?
...do you try and sneak in a nap here and there?

Before I had DS2, 8hrs and no naps.
Since DS2 was born till Saturday, total of 4-5hrs from 11pm to 6am. I look after baby tll 7am when DH wakes up. Then I sleep till 8am.
Since Saturday, barely a total of 2hrs. I have mastitis and breastfeeding almost every hour and every time he's restless or wakes up crying, I wake up too. Sunday night was brutal. Did not sleep at all, maybe 1 hr spread through the night. DS2 woke up at 6am and I did not get a chance to sleep. I got really upset when DH came to check on us at 6:40am and he said he knows baby woke up at 6am. DH didn't come to help during the night like he used to so he slept for 6-7hrs straight, and he could at least wake up a bit early to help? I got really angry.
So after 2 hrs of not sleeping, I was hoping to sleep a bit last night but DS did not cooperate woke up a lot crying, spit up a few times, had gas + I had to breastfeed non stop to get rid of that clog.
When I left the bedroom after b-feeding and changing DS at 7:20, found DH on the computer. I got upset. He complained he was up 10 times to put DS back to sleep. Well, I was up too these 10 times + the times I had to breastfeed.
Not only I'm not sleeping, I have to hold baby on the right side only because my left breast is sore. I swear by the end of the day, my right arm has given up on me. And the pain from breatfeeding? It feels like I'm feeding a piranha.
I'm off to get hugs from the hugs thread.

I'm lucky if I get 8 hours sleep. 5-6 is the norm. If I have a few restless nights I tend to take a nap during the day or sleep in longer to catch up.

I aim for 8 hours during the week and 12+ on the weekends. I can pretty much sleep through anything, which is a good thing because I tend to need quite a bit of sleep to function. If I go to long without enough sleep I get weepy, which usually elicits a good eye roll and teasing from DH.
I can't nap, I just end up feeling groggy and crappy for the rest of the day if I do.Last edited by beckie.c; Tue, Sep 23rd, 2014 at 11:29 AM.

If I'm lucky, I can get three hours during the night. Have to sleep (yeah, it's beyond a nap) for another one - or two if I can - during the day.
I couldn't nap til I was in my late 30s - and just lived on about four hours' sleep then.
I used to have more of a problem falling asleep - from when I was a teen into my late 20s.
So then it switched to being able to fall asleep, just not stay asleep.

When DH is gone, I sleep from 8pm to 8am. But that is not solid as I have to get up several times during the night to take pups out for potty breaks. The only time I nap during the day is if I have the flu.Other than that, no naps

I average 4 hours a night, give or take. I can get by on 2 hrs, 1 hr & I need a nap at some point. If I sleep longer than 6 hrs, I get a headache. It takes me forever to fall asleep (at least 1 hr, sometimes 2), then if I`m lucky I`ll get a couple of hours of solid sleep. Then I wake up & it takes another hour to fall asleep. Been this way for as long as I can remember, since I was a child, so for me it`s normal.
The only time I sleep longer than that is if I`m sick with the flu or some other infection. Or if I`m in happy land from the after effects of morphene or anaesthetic.
