I use mastercard and visa to buy gift cards from Shoppers all year. I've done the gift card promo for three years and haven't been asked for id except three years ago. I probably bought gift cards from 6-8 stores that year and two asked for id which happened to be my regular stores. One store felt kind of silly asking me since they know me, but that was their policy that year.
I try to only buy gift cards that are kept behind the counter, just for the added security.Last edited by maple7; Mon, Oct 13th, 2014 at 07:38 PM.

I would not let any store copy DL. Copy of such ID is an invitation to identity theft.
I have never been asked to shown ID when I purchased giftcards in the past. I spent $900 last year on GCs during the promo but will not participate this year due to last year's fiasco ($150 gas cards stolen, got my $ back from Esso but don't want to go through that again).
All the SDM I have been to accept any credit card as payment method for GC purchases.
PS. It is not safe to buy GC from behind the counter either...I have seen cashiers taking GCs from the GCs rack when they run out of cards.Last edited by Decaf; Mon, Oct 13th, 2014 at 10:04 PM.

Gift card fraud is part of doing business. It is like theft. Every retail business has to deal with it.
SDM should not be taking driver's license or ID information and writing it down or keeping a record of it. Look at what happened to Target! We have pins for a reason, that should be enough to verify that it is your credit card.
There is no other way around credit card fraud. I'm sure there is debit card fraud as well so SDM shouldn't limit gift card purchases to debit cards and cash. Any store that does that doesn't get my business.

I'd like to take advantage of the Gift Card promotion, but I'm unclear about how it works as it relates to Canadian Tire Gift cards.
- One page states 8000 points for buy 2 or more gift cards totalling $200
- Other page states 2000 bonus for Canadian Tire gift card of $50
If I buy 4x $50 (= $200) Canadian Tire gift cards, will I get
- 8000 bonus points (for the $200 purchase)
- 8000 bonus points (4x 2000 for the CT bonus purchase of 4x $50) AND
* [REMOVED ** 4000 bonus points (2x 2000 for the CT bonus purchase of 2x $50) AND ] *
- 2000 Regular points (each $50 gives back 500 points if Gift Card is promoted in the flyer)
Is this how it works?Last edited by rockco; Tue, Nov 4th, 2014 at 06:30 PM. Reason: Corrected the bonus points for CT Gift Card

Soooo disappointed that they upped the amount required this year. Was ready to buy $150 in GCs, but $200 is just too much money for me to tie up in GCs that won't be used for a quite a while.
Promo from last year
