Funny how things turn out. I decided no Xmas tree again this year for two reasons....One being all the work dragging the stuff out and Two being the pets. ( naughty cats that will separate the decorations from their resting place on the tree and clueless dogs who chew anything that is dropped near them )
Was feeling a little guilty about that decision and then I saw a wonderful idea in the crafty thread where clear large glass vases/bowls were used to hold and display all the Xmas decorations you could imagine!!
( well, depending on how many containers and how many decorations you had available )

I started and I could NOT stop myself. It seems like every available surface of the living/dining area has a filled vase on it! I even scored a giant sized glass cookie jar that sits on a slant with a round metal cover over the hole, I filled that with all my decorations that look like cookies and treats!
That wasn't enough, I wanted lights too, so I searched through all my many boxes of decorations and found those battery operated mini sets and placed some into each vase/bowl.
The place is lit up like a .........well......like A Christmas Tree! I have a feeling I did more work doing these, but it was sure fun. Plus I am waaaaay ahead of schedule, not even December yet!!

Most of the colour theme is red and white, the pic below is not mine.

A friend of mine was looking for those glass building blocks to make a neat christmas decoration. I think you cut a hole into the side, place some christmas lights in it and wrap some ribbon around it to make it look like a present.

    A pic for reference...

Neat idea! Now your house will still look festive and hopefully the critters will stay out of the vases. lol.

Ohhhh, I'm so glad you did it!! They turn out beautiful, don't they? And it's such an easy, inexpensive way to decorate.

I have one of these. It was given to me done with gold colors which I don't care for, so I pulled it apart and changed it to all silver and now I love it.

thanks so much everyone. You know this has really helped my mood I think. Whenever I walk into the room now I'm thrilled to NOT be frantically on edge wondering how many things have been " lifted " off the Xmas tree. Oh and a bonus is some of the battery powered mini light sets have a setting of " timer " ....so there is off/on and timer. The other night at 8 p.m. I set them to that and then they automatically turn themselves out and come back on again at 8 p.m. each night after!!

I've never done that, Walks, but I think I will this year....just have to go out for battery operated lights. They must look beautiful at night!
As for those "gift boxes" using clear bricks, one gal was selling them for about $25 at a craft show last year and they were flying out the door! They were gorgeous...she did a lovely job on them...
