I'm actively searching for a dishwasher. There are various brands on sale thanks to Black Friday. It is overwhelming and the reviews are quite mixed. I need your help to identify what brand dishwasher you would recommend & which ones to stay clear of. My budget is ~$700 preferably in black.TIA.

Check out TestFreaks.com or TestFreaks.ca to see reviews, or Google the model number to search for specific model reviews.

I have a Whirlpool and it works really well and is pretty quiet. Previously I had an Ikea dishwasher. It was a great price and washed the heck out of the dishes but was extremely noisy.

We used to have a Haier. I don't think I would recommend any of their products. The dishwasher was extremely noisy and I believe it lasted a few years. We have a used Kenmore that has already lasted longer.

We have a whirlpool and it works well, but I only use it when we have a crowd for dinner - usually about once a week. I also just use the no name yellow box of dishwasher detergent from Superstore and I don't notice any difference between this and the expensive brands of detergent. This box is only $3 and it will probably last me over six months.

OP, also try your library's Consumer Reports database online to see dishwasher reviews. Think their tests include comments about operational noise levels because that could matter if you have someone at home on shiftwork or needing their rests on schedule in quiet.
The US reviews total 132 models. When I click on the link for Canadian dishwasher reviews, there are very few models listed with a price and many models are marked NA. $700 might be a stretch unless you can locate a vendor offering a good deal for the unit you want.

Leon's has two dishwashers in black. One's within your budget and the closest model number reviewed by Consumers Reports is this one:

Goeman's has several dishwashers in black and at various pricepoints:

I have a Whirlpool and am very happy with it. We were going to buy a Bosch because we wanted quiet (open concept has some issues). The saleslady talked us out of it and recommended our Whirlpool. Saved $1,000 and have a very quiet and efficient machine. We use it almost daily.

We have a Bosch and use it every day, sometimes twice a day, and we love it.

We have a kitchenaid Architect and it wasn't cheap and I wouldn't get one again. The third rack is positively useless. If you use it then you can barely get glassware in the top. If you lower the top rack you can't get plates in the bottom. It's a real pain. Also it doesn't drain very well either. The dishes are cleaned well, it dries like a champion - as long as there is enough jet dry in there and it's darn near impossible to hear but I wouldn't purchase another one.

padyofurniture, hope you can find another good used dishwasher at good price or get a deal on a new one. Good observation about your major expenses.

Thanks Ciel, we purchased a new one today. I was at work, but I think it's a Fridgidare.
