I decided to head to Target this morning to buy a few decorations etc. Not at 6 am though lol. I picked up a few things and was walking across the large, long parking lot to the bus stop. Half way there I slipped, fell forward, hit the side of my face on the sidewalk. I wasn't knocked out. Lifted my head and blood poured out of my nose (sorry for the graphics). I sat up realized I wasn't injured anywhere else, pulled myself up, digging for Kleenex to stop the bleeding. I started to march onwards when two women ran up to me and told me to stop. They witnessed what happened and wanted to call an ambulance. Me being tough said I'm fine, I don't want to waste the paramedics time, especially when others may need it more urgently. They offered to drive me home. I'm always leery about getting into a car with strangers but something said to trust them. I arrived home, they asked if I had someone I could call. I said yes. I get inside, placed ice on my face, watched tv. My neighbour came by (she's a nurse). My nose was quite swollen and becoming painful. Anyways she insisted I be seen by a doctor and drove me to the hospital. "Quit being tough!" were her words lol. So she waited with me at the hospital. My head was fine, no signs of a concussion. However I do have a broken nose. Not severe enough requiring surgery. So good thing I went. Black Friday is dangerous. I'll be fine. Icing my nose and face. I'm hoping I can go to the SDM redemption tomorrow!

Oh, no. Thank goodness you had a few angels looking after you!
I hope you're not in a lot of pain, and that you heal very quickly.

Black and Blue Friday it seems toban, What a horrible thing to happen and I do understand the being tough thing, sometimes though we do have to listen to some great advice given like your neighbour who is a nurse did. I hope you feel ( and look ) much better very soon.

Wow, you never what can happen. Thank God for those women. Big hugs for you and heal fast. My son had his nose broken from a fall and it was like you no surgery. Because the crack was streat he did not need any surgery. He was sore for a few days and than ok. I hope it will be the same for you. Take good care..........................

Thanks everyone I received a call from the hospital yesterday. They looked at the xrays again and realized my nose is slightly off. They managed to get me in to see a plastic surgeon today. It was an experience lol. He froze my nose, stuck some instrument up it and realigned? the bone. I have a splint type bandage over my nose and will come back in a few weeks to see him. According to him it wasn't terribly crooked. Thank goodness. The cold air doesn't help and you don't realize how much you depend on you're nose lol. I have to swaddle my face in a scarf with the cold air.

A family member had a similar situation. Mall security did an assessment and insisted on a trip to emergency for a visit. Nothing serious, but ER did give her a tetanus shot to prevent any infections.
If not an ambulance.... having someone drive you to ER will save the cost of an ambulance.
On the West Coast, you can quickly check ER wait times here... http://www.edwaittimes.ca/WaitTimes.aspx
