So...did Sony "cave" to North Korea's alleged hacking of their computers or is this a matter of preventing attacks on their patrons in theatres?
Personally, this was a disaster waiting to happen from it's inception. Creating a movie that encourages actors to promote the assassination of a political leader? How can Sony not expect repercussions?
As far as actors being all righteous about freedom of expression and stifling their "art"? Really?! And which public theatres will THEY be seeing the movie in?! None! Not one! But the general public is just fodder for their "art". That's how much they care for the little people who gush over the hypocrites!

I think it's both, Lynn.
Really, really stupid premise for a movie - really? A sitting world leader, didn't matter from what country it was - just nuts to even make it.

Personally, I think it was a chickensh!t move on Sony's part. You've made the movie, now follow through. And it's not like it's the first time a Kim Jong was killed in a movie.

I'm thinking this will be just the start of Hollywierd Hacking. Success here just means it will happen again.

I thinnk part of it is due to the fact that Sony Picture's parent compay is based in Japan. That's a much more likely target than the States if Noth Korea gets in a pissy mood.
Mind you, missing a Seth Rogan comedy isn't that much of a big deal for me .I wasn't going to see it ayway.
Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Neither The Manchurian Candidate and The Day of the Jackal were movies about one country plotting the assassination of another country's political leader.

When I saw the very first preview for this film quite a ways back not only was I stunned at the ridiculousness that is was labelled a comedy ( Seth just go away please! You are anything BUT funny ) it seemed to me like Sony ( and everyone besides Seth involved in the writing ) were simply POKING A BEAR!!!
Go ahead guys, poke an unstable leader like Kim Jong Un and then act surprised he found ways to poke you back!
As for Sony pulling the release, I say yup they sure blinked! I think they had no choice but to blink. Would they want the blood on their hands if movie goers had been shot up at various theatres over this?
