I think, in some locations, food banks still come to pick up day old bread. Where there is a huge need, food pantries will come and pick up. Saw it last week at a major grocery store in a rural area.

OP, just curious where your RCSS is located? I am still able to find pink sticker (50% off) bread at RCSS.

When I was there today the stickers are 30%. I will still go there though for PC points and because it's beside my house.

In the supermarkets in England, we always used to get mark downs at 25-30% a day or two before until the day of expiry. Then everything would go down to about 25-50cents and everything would be sold!

    I love those prices!!

On another note, everything at Loblaws remains at 50% (except for the meats/fish which have been 30% off for awhile). The only thing that has always received a lower discount is electrical/batteries at 25% off.

I was at the RCSS Regina in the east and I saw the 25% stickers too - it was on gum and coffee and 30% was on the bread and veggies. Independent here still does 50% off of veggies and bread.

No more 50% pinky's for bread at the Kitchener RCSS ... all 30% now. That's a deal breaker for me ... I don't even swing by the racks any more, and I used to buy lots in the past. And to hear they just throw it out ... that is just wrong, on so many levels. Bring back the 50% stickers for out-of-date baked goods Loblaws brain trust.

Many stores get compensations for products that don't sell before best expiry dates so may be these stores have little incentives to sell them at low price

I've switched to my local shoppers for reduced bread. I'm getting loaves of bread and tortillas with 3-4 days left best before dates for under .99. It's YMMV but this is a small store which doesn't move perishables very well. I do milk, bread and egg shopping their twice a week.

I saw 50% off stickers at my local NF but my RCSS is still 30% and like most I won't bother with 30%.

My Loblaws has an amazing rack where everything is marked $1..I purchase my daughter's Gluten free cookies, brownies, buns and pizza crusts there and throw them in the freezer!
