    Food Fiction

We go shopping for lousy food labels.
Are you being served the truth or food fiction?

They covered Nutella, Healthy Request soup, Sunkist fruit bars, veggie bread, etc.

Nutella founder passes away (not because of the CBC story, I hope!)

Yup everything that is heavily processed has bad labelling. People have to read the label before they buy. Remember to avoid the inside aisles and shop the perimeter at your grocery stores.

I honestly can't believe that anybody would buy Nutella thinking it is healthy! It's basically chocolate for toast!

Interesting. We've been reading labels our whole lives because of allergies so we always compare the nutrition while we're at it. It is worth getting into this habit! It only takes a few seconds and you'll be surprised by what you find sometimes.

A lot of people assume that "gluten free" means healthy, but if you read the labels, you'll find that some of the gluten free stuff is full of sugar. The "low sodium" stuff often has only 100 or so mg less sodium (still better than full sodium). Lower calorie only has 50 or so less calories. No sugar added could mean there's artificial sweeteners in there

I always wonder about people slamming Nutella. We've been eating it since we were kids. It's chocolate for toast, so it's obviously a treat, not a daily staple.

But Nutella being part of a healthy breakfast is the way it's advertised. Just like "breakfast" cereals like Cocoa Puffs and Trix.

I don't think they do market it that way. I looked up the recipes on their website. It doesn't say "healthy" on their site http://www.nutella.ca/recipes.php and http://www.nutella.ca/products.php

    They use "tasty" or "fun"
