Expired on: Sat, Dec 8th, 2018UPDATE - Feb:
Shaw TV will announce their TV channels on Feb. 16, for the $25 basic package.
[QUOTE]As of February 16, 2016, the minimum level of TV service offered to customers in BC is “Limited TV” – the package mandated by the CRTC and priced at $25.00/mo. As this will be the basis of the PST exemption for BC Cable TV customers moving forward, the billed amount of PST on your invoice will increase.
The Shaw Skinny Basic tv package will probably include the same channels that Sask Tel and Quebec have in their less expensive TV options:
CBC, CTV, Global TV, City TV and local stationsThis thread is currently associated with: Bell, Rogers (Plus)Last edited by Shwa Girl; Mon, Feb 15th, 2016 at 06:51 PM.

Some are saying that the telecom companies will raise internet fees to offset loss in television revenues

While it's what consumers want, the cable companies will still win. As you say, the prices will jump and even services like Shomi and others won't be cost effective.

Although the per month fee has been capped at $25, there is no cap on what they can charge us for each channel choice we make.
They win, we'll probably end up paying more for what we have now.
Our Eastlink charges us $2 for each new channel we add...any bets that'll translate to $5 when the new regulations come into effect?

I'm SURE that will happen.
Right now, we have internet and basic cable bundled with Shaw. We've been totally happy with them (especially tech service - they ROCK!), and price increases have been minimal.
We have been very lucky to have our package grandfathered - but if we touch it to change it, boom - they will rise in price quite a bit.
So it will be interesting to see what happens with this new plan.
I only watch regular tv for local and national news.
Everything else I watch online.
However, husband loves the couch - so he watches a lot on tv.

I am thinking we might end up just keeping the plan we have now. With Bell I pay $25.00 for 6 Themes! ( that translates to lots of tv choices for all 4 people here ) Everyone has their thing that they prefer watching ( DH sports is a must ) and it worked out cheaper than getting fewer themes not bundled. Guess we will just have to wait and see what the new changes bring.

I cut my Cable long time back. But its a good deal for people with cable.
I just go for FREE HD Legal Over The Air ( OTA ) channels with an Outdoor antennae.
You will surprised how many FREE channels you can get with that ..& Legal . US channels & Canadian channels. You won't get any speciality channels like Sports, Movies etc , but lot of other Network channels can be had for FREE

Although it is was people have been asking for, I think customers will end up paying more. That $25 basic package is very basic, and does not need to include any US channels, or even the Cdn all news networks. So most people will want to add channels. I hope bundles will remain available, and that it's the just pick one channel option that will be added. The pick one channel option could end up costing quite a lot in the end.

Most TV providers have had increases of $2 to $5 in February.

At $25 per month, we can, and do, buy more DVD sets than we watch in that month. And we don't have to put up with those annoyances that they call commercials.
I personally don't see the attraction to cable, or satellite for that matter.
